Well if he asked for it it makes it right (I'm being sarcastic here). Its the spot QdK asked for, apparently. And I think Faf is the best suited to bat #5 for RSA IMO. Hopefully AB can come back and take up the #4 slot leaving QdK at 6.
He scored only 68 and 1 last game and the low score was after fielding. I didn't mind it so much last game though as there was a big second wicket partnership. SA needed the skipper to stand tall and bat 4, of course he might have failed anyway - just my thought.Lol.. I get it about 100 overs of keeping makes it tough, esp. after two quiick wickets but maybe they felt the counter attack option was the way to go. Its easy to criticize these things with hindsight but you cant move a guy who did well in that spot in the last game.
Does it matter that much that he's the skipper though? QdK is clearly the superior batsman and it just makes sense to try him out higher up in the order. And that 68 was very important in the context of the game.He scored only 68 and 1 last game and the low score was after fielding. And how many times did Cook not enforce a follow on, then declare late and cost us a win??If it was Cook, he'd bat again so they could have a 600 lead (and end up running out of time). It will be interesting what Root chooses.
Yes it matters that he is captain. It also matters that de Kock keeps. The first innings of a match is the innings where it matters the least because he hasn't been keeping.Does it matter that much that he's the skipper though? Best suited for 5 is Bavuma who has applied himself well this tour and QdK should bat at 6. There are situations where he should bat top 4, but definitely not with the series level chasing 350 and two quick wickets down.
I don`t disagree with you... but Faf went to him and asked him if he wanted to bat top 6 and which position. QDK wanted to bat 4. I don`t mind this because he has better opportunity to bat with his opening LO partner, Amla, and they work well as a combination. Faf has batted at 5 for SA for awhile now and it seems to suit him and the team. And I won`t start criticizing his man management to much because he is the best captain we have had since Smith. He is doing a great job.Yes it matters that he is captain. It also matters that de Kock keeps. The first innings of a match is the innings where it matters the least because he hasn't been keeping.
I am happy for him to go on and off the field as much as he wants as long as he comes back and takes the 5 for.... I do hope its just a bit of a serious stomach bug and nothing more sinister. This is probably unfair but they both seem to be overly dramatic when they're injured in the field; when Philander collided with Smith in Hobart everybody thought his shoulder was busted but he was out an hour later taking another 5 wicket haul!
Yeah I was confused when he was moved there, shouldn't be below Bavuma though. 5 is the sweet spot for me.Well if he asked for it it makes it right (I'm being sarcastic here).

Well Wood can't anyway any more so your point means nothing. Better bowler bowling less four balls at a slower pace is better for the team. Wood is not up to it after the injuries which is a shame but how it is.But will he be able to bowl 90mph at the Gabba?
Faf is a puss bag who always hides down the order.Has anyone talked about QdK batting ahead of Faf? I just think it is a soft option from the captain who bats 3 in ODIs to bat below the keeper in Tests - especially after fielding for 100 overs.
Agreed. Misbah, Clarke, Chanders and half the current England side are also such pussies.Faf is a puss bag who always hides down the order.
Seems a pretty strong sentiment for a man you`ve probably never met...Faf is a puss bag who always hides down the order.
Well, not declaring earlier certainly robbed them of victory at Rajkot in the winter. And then there was that absurd decision to bat again a year or so ago - it might have been v Pakistan - where England had 300 on the board and still came out again to add some pointless runs to it.And how many times did Cook not enforce a follow on, then declare late and cost us a win??
I haven't looked at any weather forecast so obviously if the outlook is ********* that will affect the call, but with the next test starting Friday I'll be more than happy to see some extra miles put into the Saffers bowlers considering they are a bowler down.
