Re: Dobell, I listen to him a fair bit on the Switch Hit cricket show and sometimes his Cricinfo articles I think he's a pretty decent cricket observer; I don't always agree with him but I respect his opinions.

But he's very protective of the English domestic scene (hear him endlessly on the podcast defending the T20 comp) and I think that's the source of his negativity towards Bayliss; namely that he doesn't respect or follow the County scene enough and the players in it. That's probably why from the articles I saw he was more supportive than most of Peter Moores as he was immersed in and a product of the County scene.

He was similar towards the end of Andy Flower's reign as coach when things went awry in Australia; namely that he didn't have enough respect for the County first-class system and was too focussed on the centres of excellence.

Its commendable to take the side of the county game. Not a lot of people will and in some ways I agree with him.

If must be noted that some county monsters never make it as Test players and for that reason we can't just trust county cricket. Mark Davis never got an England cap and the guy has the some of the most ludicrous FC bowling figures. Ballance can go back and start eating county bowlers alive without changing his technique and get cries for a recall.

There is defo a reason they are using the Lions to test the best players out and also why when we're theorising who they might pick you just need to look at the Lions teams.

I'd have Flower back in a heartbeat btw.

Now that England have picked a spinner that can sort-of bowl and sort-of bat, then recalled Ballance, there's only one move left for them to repeat; send for Jos!

Never have I celebrated an injury to any player and I never will but the Ballance injury could be a blessing in disguise for England.
