I am all for expanding the game but paying them 180k per year?

Women's sport in general is a long way behind men's sport. In cricket it's more noticeable because everything is slower and less powerful, which becomes very visible on something the size of a cricket field.

Look at women's tennis. The top female servers hit at 170 odd while the top men are serving at 200 odd. That's a ~15% difference. The women's world record for the 100m sprint is nearly a full second behind the mens (10%). The men's 100m freestyle WR is 46 seconds and the women's is 52 seconds or roughly 13%.

If women are bowling 15% slower and have 15% less power in their shots the total energy on a cricket ball will be roughly 30% less than when a male pro middles it off a fast bowler.

There is a reason that women don't compete in sport against men pretty much across the board and it's the same reason why there are different standards for men and women to enter the military.

TBH, calling some players 3rd graders isnt fair as I have no doubt that some players could play A grade (assuming they could handle the additional pace etc)

Anyway, unlike women's tennis or basketball, the thing that generally disappoints me about women's cricket is that many players dont seem to have a great command of the basics.

If they were technically proficient, I might watch a bit more of it but until that happens, it's all a bit meh to me

You have to realise that just because the standard is lower than the men's, doesn't mean that the players aren't still exceptional for what they're doing. Whether or not they deserve $180K a year is a whole different discussion.

Ftr I have the same issue with women's cricket as you. I just can't watch it due to the standard being so poor. Mostly just because I've played at a moderate level and watching someone on TV that is a lot worse than you as a casual club player just doesn't really do the trick. I don't have the same issue with other women's sports though.

What a dire day for Australian cricket.

While I think CA are primarily to blame I don't have much sympathy for either side now. Just a lot of arrogance and ego on display everywhere to the detriment of the game itself.

If you expect them to only earn the money that women's cricket actually make from profits then they'd probably be getting paid literally nothing. Heck even subtract their salaries and they might still be costing money to run and they'd have to pay to play.

I think you've got to see women's cricket as a bit of a "charity case" and put some money towards it for the good of the game. And that's what they're doing. Maybe it will get young girls into cricket that otherwise wouldn't and turn them into cricket fans that spend money on Men's games.

Blame can be apportioned to both sides but if CA was a regular company, the government would be coming down on them like a ton of bricks

The problem has always been that CA and the ACA have have mutually exclusive goals.

The ACA wants revenue sharing.

CA wants any arrangement that doesn't have revenue sharing.

While neither side is willing to budge on this key point nothing will happen.

I'm just old fashioned and think that you should be able to generate income before you draw a wage. And I couldn't really care less about elite women's cricket. I dont watch it and doubt I ever will.
