Throwback to that Pakistan game vs Sri Lanka where they needed 80 runs off the last 3 wickets and Amir walked out to bat and played like a proper batsman. Today, I have no qualms about the Fakhar being MOTM but it should have been Amir. Got the wickets of Rohit, Kohli and Dhawan and basically won the game in the first 10 overs itself. Hardik probably gave indications of how it would have been like if India had not lost those three. It was a flat pitch and if Amir hadn't dealt that blow, there was no saying that India would not go over the line.

Completely agreed. This pitch was not tough to score on and India easily could've made a game of it if not for his first spell.

For India, the biggest issue for me was that we never learned from our mistakes. Pakistan did and made proactive changes. We kept selecting Ashwin. We didn't even try Rahane once. We keep picking Yuvraj for these tournaments, I am not sure why. I really hope we can build for 2019 now. There are some nice young players who are making a mark and that's a good sign.

The problem with having a bowling attack based on containment is it won't work against a team which is hell bent on winning. To win a big tourney, you need wicket takers. Bumrah, Ashwin, Jadeja have to go imo.

Bumrah can be a specialist middle overs pace bowler tbf. Bhuvi and Shami should be our opening bowlers and Umesh should be the backup. We also need a decent leggie in the XI.

The thing with Bumrah is that

a) He could yet be an asset if he sorts out his extras problem. I am not entirely convinced it wasn't a case of big stage nerves that got to him today.

b) He shouldn't be opening the bowling. He's a third bowler at best, and more suited to the death overs.

India missed a trick by not playing Shami or Yadav in place of Ashwin. Ashwin's ODI career needs to die.

In a game like this a bloke who sets up a huge first innings score with a ton deserves it. Not to take credit away from Amir, but it's far easier to bowl defending a target of 335 than 235.
