Hmm, first home fixture to either be the day after my bucks or the day after my wedding. Bloody hell, don't know what would be better/worse.

Kudos to our under 20s I guess. I'm not sure how accurate a gauge of the health of the national side the U20 world cup is, but better to be making the final than not.

Some of the Italian defending would have Claudio Gentile rolling in his grave though. Were the great man dead, I mean.

Did anyone else of certain vintage used to really look forward to the England - Scotland game in the Home Internationals but now can hardly be bothered to watch today's World Cup Qualifier unless there's nothing better to do?

Yeah, it might be distance adding a rose coloured view, but it was always a highlight of the international season.

Younger readers might find it hard to believe, but Scotland used to have a football team back in the day. Pretty much every first division side had a few Sweaties when I were a lad. Even The Arsenal, who were more reliant on Irish labour, had the properly old school stopper that was Willie Young. And later George Wood and champagne Charlie.

Last game that mattered was that Euro qualifier under Keegan. We would have been better off losing to save the embarrassment of the tournament itself. Gazza's goal will never be beaten as the best moment in a game between the sides, was glorious. As for today, if the cricket is still going I will watch that, might see 2nd half but not fussed.

I think it was only as late as the 60s or 70s where England started to pull away in the head to head count. Given the disparity in population etc, our record against England is far better than it should be.

That's absolutely hilarious. I didn't think it was possible to be less annoyed about losing to Scotland.
