You are right, but honestly I see a lot of parallels in this team and Ganguly's 03-04 team, I feel that most of these guys are finally hitting their peaks so they will have good chance overseas. Also Kohli might be a total idiot but I have a lot of faith in his cricketing abilities(both as a Batsman and a Captain), this series notwithstanding. In the end, we just have to wait and see, I just don't want to declare them a failure before actually seeing them in action abroad.
I actually think their batsmen should mostly be fine overseas (although if Kohli is going to continue flashing at wide balls early on with no footwork, he's going to find that his performance on his last tour of England was not necessarily a one-off) but, as usual, their bowling has a few question marks over it. Ashwin and Jadeja are magnificent in India, but it's fair to say that they're unproven at best away from the subcontinent.

In general I don't really expect Ashwin to be all that great overseas, Jadeja I am not so sure about. However I feel that if Yadav , Shami and Bhuvi (don't rate Ishant too much, although he can be good occasionally) don't get injured we have an OK attack, it's not gonna blow opponents away, but with the weight of runs behind them they can chip away at wickets.

Ashwin vs Jadeja overseas is a real headache. Easy to say Jadeja based on recent form but if Ashwin's fit and bowling well, idk. Though of course we could always just pick both and go with 5 bowlers.

I genuinely think Umesh, Bhuvi and Shami can do a job overseas. They won't win us games on their own, but if they have runs on the board, they can absolutely cause problems.

Hope Kohli's a better overseas captain than Dhoni.

Yeah just pick both imo. Umesh, Bhuvi, Shami, Jadeja, Ashwin should be the attack. 5 bowlers, depth in the attack, and two spinners can handle a big workload so that the pacers don't break halfway through a tour.

From what I've seen Ishant is better at making things happen when there's nothing in the pitch when compared to Bhuvneshwar.

Steve Smith is averaging 60 in case you guys don't know. I always knew when I first saw him back in 11 that he was something special. Surprised, he didn't play on a regular bases since. Actually, when he first came onto the scene, nobody and I mean nobody really rated him, and didn't really like him. He could become one of the all time greatest batsman of Australia. I rate him better than Ricky Ponting. Warner reminds me of Matthew Hayden. Australia always seems to produce these stunning batsman. They must have a great system in place. The key question now is can they produce the next Shane Warne. I'm surprised why they can't produce a spinner worth of note. Australia have done well in this test series. I really hope they do win the final test. But for future, no test series bar the Ashes should consist of more than 3 tests.

The fact Australia keep asking if every spinner is "the next Warne" is probably part of the reason it's taken them so long to find a spinner that they consistently pick.

I think we have to say SMarsh is generally underrated tbh. He's a frustrating player for sure, but he's now played quite a number of very impressive and important (if not numerically large) innings in very trying circumstances, and he's been deprived of the opportunity to pad his numbers at home in the way many other of our batsmen have in the last 5 years.
Yeah, he's the classic Australian fan whipping boy but his numbers in recent years in FC and test cricket are excellent. Especially when, as you say, he's had a much harder time of it than most in terms of when and where he has played.

Even just his overall record since returning to the side in South Africa in 2014 - average of 41.78 with 4 hundreds in 15 matches. In those 15 matches I think he's made a telling contribution with the bat in about 10 of them. At least a half-century, often including difficult runs like the 50s in the last two games, the 49 in the day/night test against New Zealand, and great overseas hundreds in South Africa and Sri Lanka. Injuries and the fact that he doesn't seem to "cash in" very well are his biggest issues.

That's a better average with twice as many hundreds as Warner in his last 15 tests, and probably a few more meaningful contributions as well, though Warner does have some useful 30-40 type innings here and there, like in Sri Lanka.

It's going to be an odd selection period for batsmen when the home summer rolls around, with only one more test between now and the Ashes. Khawaja certainly deserves his spot in the team based on his home record, but so do Marsh and Maxwell. Then there's the benefits of a seam-bowling all-rounder in home conditions. The rest of the team seem basically undroppable.

An 1-1 superbly close series going into a fourth test decider with all outcomes possible, this is literally the worst time to make that particular argument!! You should have made it when England were in the sub-continent, plying their dross in a depressingly one-sided five-tester snoozefest.

1 v 2 in the world.
Kohli working extra hard to market the series and gain media attention
History of healthy rivalry if not a little outright hostility at times

Good a case could be made that they should have scheduled 5 tests not 3
