How long could kohli conceivably bat this crap before he gets dropped. I know this is premature discussion as he's already at Sachin levels of popularity(gauging by crowd reception, please don't argue this minor point) but 5 failures could soon become 7-8 and then suddenly he's a liability

The answer is "a long time". I think he'll come good but either way it's basically three bad tests. The last series before this one he scored over 600 runs including two hundreds.

I am sure he will recover. All players have bad series. Unless they are Smith, of course.

Despite his failures in the last 3 tests, since the beginning of 2016, he has 1500 runs @ 65. 3 tests ago he was seen as a contender for best batsman in the world.

From a fairness POV, he should get at least 7-8 more tests of failures easily, considering the indian batting as a whole hasn't been firing on all cylinders anyway.

From a realistic POV, never.

Another great day off test match cricket between two evenly matched teams.

Felt Australia are a shade ahead right now but I felt India were a shade ahead at tea. Fascinating stuff.

And far out Cummins. WAG. Bird would be an opening bowler for most sides in the world. For Australia at the moment he's literally behind 4 other quicks. If only we could keep them all on the park.

How bad would Australia be wrecking us right now if they were equally determined and prepared and the series was in Australia?

at least 7-8 more test matches after this

Im glad that Australia wasted a number of overs on negative bowling. It's taken valuable time out of the game!

At least an additional half a session of play has been taken out.. and that could later translate to India having to face about 65-70 overs in the last innings, instead of 80 to 90 overs that they may have had to otherwise. And that could be the difference between managing to draw vs losing.

This game ATM has Rajkot written all over it. England were close to winning but made a few negative decisions in the game, which helped India narrowly escape with a draw.

With that 176*, Smith now averages 109 in the first innings of a test.

Lose the toss against Smith and he'll score an extra 62 runs (assuming he bats twice). He averaged 53 in the second innings, 47 in the third and 33 in the 4th.

It was completely good natured. People really are absurd.
I couldn't watch the match today and just looked at the photo. Genuine query. I remember Dhawan was ripped apart for imitating Watson and sometimes still is. How is this one good natured and different to what Dhawan did?

Maxwell and Kohli are good friends off the field.

There's a bit of difference in context, but otherwise it's mostly that Watson very obviously took offence and then it blew up. Maxwell and Kohli genuinely could be just a bit of ribbing between good mates.

Ok. Two tests and three days in and I have absolutely no ****ing idea what will happen between these two teams. It's that close, and so compelling it's ridiculous.

Probably because Watson has a massively thin skin. No, I actually don't know the incident you are referring too but from my pov I don't think the grabbing of shoulder was necessarily even directed at kohli, in jest or not. He rolled in the same manner and same spot as kohli so I saw it more as grabbing his shoulder theatrically as a joke he'd hurt himself. Anyway, my main gripe is in this twitter, disposable comment culture people rush to offence and attack so easily.

I mean yeah he had a massive grin on his face at the time. I still think it's something you shouldn't do, but it is worth remembering that Watson's injury problems were far worse than mere frustrations that kept you off the field for a day or so.
