Its been discussed to death during last ipl. Getting boring now.

It is a serious business then, is it, the nomenclature of these teams? Understood.

This is the first time I've entered into a discussion on the IPL, or even clicked on a discussion (and one suspects it will be the last!). The news over Stokes momentarily interested me for obvious reasons, but I'll just depart and leave you chaps back to your discussions then.

Nah you are fine.. Just that it is a joke that has been ongoing since the very first IPL. All the names have some element of stupidity but it stopped being something worth commenting on quite some time ago.

Loving all the Indian armchair heroes crawling out from the woodwork to proclaim Stokes is **** because they've looked at his stats.

I don't particularly care about limited overs stuff outside of World Cups. But hopefully it will help Stokes mature in those formats. Quite happy for him to do that learning in the IPL. Once he clicks fully he'll easily be worth his price tag. A game-breaker/winner in all facets of cricket.

Glad to see some Afghanistan/UAE players getting picked up.

Actually i feel if anything ipl especially at the price tag paid will hurt him in long run. You like it or not stokes will fail, he is way overpriced and doesn't really bring much to the team in t20, add to that he has gone to the worst possible team, he is a hitter who would have been a hit even at current price had he gone to srh or mi, teams who would need him to bat well and may be bowl 1 or 2 overs, but he has gone to a team whose best fast bowling options are dinda, unadkat and mitch marsh, it is a team which will need him to bowl 4 overs every game in crunch situations which he will most likely fail at as he is a very poor ltd overs bowler. He will be let go never to reach anywhere near the price tag next season. It will affect him mentally.

Yeah no one thinks he's ****, I think he could do great. But using basically your entire budget to buy one bloke is simply dumb.

It's dumb if you assume the aim is to win the tournament, which it clearly isn't.

They have Lockie Ferguson as well, wouldn't surprise me if he plays a few games.

Pune's biggest problem is they spent so much on Steve Smith, who's not even worth a spot in the side. They've got Stokes, Faf (who's a far better T20 player than Smith and was cheaper), Zampa who was a complete steal, Mitchell Marsh. I'd play those as the 4 overseas. Then probably Ferguson next given their balance (Dhoni particularly likes to have pace options)

Even Khawaja I'd have ahead of Smith.

They probably still have some of the old CSK middle order of Raina, Jadeja, Bravo so they should be fine IMO. No idea who their bowlers are though..

This should probably go in the PSL thread, but it came up in my YouTube suggestions and it was awesomely cringeworthy, and we're discussing franchise T20 cricket anyway, so..

Yup. That would be the ideal choice too but I was just trying to point out at the mismanagement in having 4 foreign openers in the squad. Admittedly they might not have thought Roy would be so easy to grab in the auction but it still looks bizarre.
