IPL Auction

Inevitably a day will come when IPL will be a far bigger and longer tournament with a few to several more teams. There's a lot of untapped potential in this regard. And a lot of quality international players don't get an opportunity at present and similarly for a country so big and so populated still not that many locals have an opportunity to play at this level.. and cricket is still a very risky career path.. but Imagine a 16 team tournament.. all that would change. Many more youngsters would pursue cricket. And with games happening in like 16 different cities, it'd truly be a big deal. Several Indian regions and cities are not well represented in IPL atm. (although it's actually a franchise model)

Australia already is looking to add more teams to the existing 8 teams despite having significantly fewer cities and population.
Yeah and I don't want it to stop there. All formats of the game in India should become franchise tournaments with overseas player participation throughout the year. Only the very best players from the domestic teams would be selected and it would improve the quality of the local Indian players who rise to the top so much.

International cricket will not just die, but yes the smaller nations will be significantly impacted as the big cricketing nation will mostly just play each other during international cricket months.

A positive impact could be that the super league (ipl) could draw viewership in non-cricketing nations because of its immensity and maybe cricket could break out in some other nations.

It's hard to sell cricket to non-cricketing nations at present.

Why the **** do i care about selling cricket to non cricketing nations? If they want to play, good otherwise who cares if China doesn't play cricket?

Do they even watch cricket at all..
Tahir has an ipl economy rate of 8.6 not exactly sure why teams would buy him when a domestic guy could do similar and keep the 4th overseas spot for someone better.

Interesting, didn't know that. His limited overs record is sensational though for SA and he seems to be improving all the time.

Most of his good performances have come against hacks who have no clue how to play spin, indians rarely have issues picking him and stats in ipl show him to be mediocre, i think that is also the reason why likes of guptill don't get picked as first choice even at low price, you might a big hitter but if you can't play spin and performances are **** in ipl you aren't going to get a chance.

While it's obvious to see that Tahir hasn't replicated his international form in IPL, it's not true that about Tahir succeeding only against those who don't know how to play spin.

cw should chip in for a few mill and buy a franchise in this. we'd get some good bargain bin players and win the whole thing imo. tahir will take 30k right?

Cricket is not that global a sport.. Even Rugby has really grown, while cricket has not.

With a big league franchise system full of quality internationals, it's easier for an outsider to identify with a team and to start to like the game.. Whereas as it is now, it's close to impossible for an outsider to ever identify with an international team.. Hence cricket doesn't attract or sell and never grows.

For eg, let's look at a sport like basketball.. It is watched everywhere, simply because of the franchise system.

However, if it was like cricket, always country v country. Not many would wanna watch Mexico v Argentina. The broadcasting rights wouldn't sell.

So Mills gets a million dollar deal despite being a filthy meme player and Cheteshwar "High-Test is Best" Pujara can't even get a deal?

**** the IPL, ***** it to hell.

I won't be judging the owners that quickly. Too many times players that I think would do well absolutely stinks it up in the tourney. Jos Buttler for example is one guy who should be destroying this tournament but he was below mediocre every chance he got.
He's had 1 tournament and scored 255 @ 23 with a SR of 139. He for sure underperformed but he was hardly dreadful.

He has one meme slower ball. Will be figured out soon. Terrible buy.
Absolute dross from you. His pace will make him a threat, his economy rate is generally very good and the various slower balls he has are excellent.

Stokes is far overpaid as he is an overrated T20/white ball player, but Mills is a great buy.
