IPL Auction

Still personally think the best thing from a world spectators POV would be to see the IPL up the game day quota from 4 to 5 overseas players, meaning a split of 6-5 of local Indian players to overseas.

I get the argument that it's a Indian comp and that would mean too few local players etc, but still think it would raise the standard of the comp and make it an even better overall package.
Yup indeed, I've been wanting that for some time.

Maybe they can introduce having a substitute player in the games. That way they'll be 12 players involved and can retain 7 locals & have 5 overseas players.

I don't think adding 8 more players would make that much difference compared to the effect it would have on the Indian cricketers who get left out.
Possibly, but I'm looking at it from an overseas spectators POV & it's something that would make it a better package, but I do get that local player argument.

I like the idea of the 6/5 split so it's still in majority of locals, but wouldn't be opposed to a super sub time situation if it meant one more world class player on each side.... and you really wouldn't need to change the squads, there's another world class players sitting on the sidelines of those squads as it is.

I am eager to see Natarajan. Good that he is getting picked. A good pacer from TN after a long time. Balaji was the last decent one and I couldn't recall anyone before him.

Inevitably a day will come when IPL will be a far bigger and longer tournament with a few to several more teams. There's a lot of untapped potential in this regard. And a lot of quality international players don't get an opportunity at present and similarly for a country so big and so populated still not that many locals have an opportunity to play at this level.. and cricket is still a very risky career path.. but Imagine a 16 team tournament.. all that would change. Many more youngsters would pursue cricket. And with games happening in like 16 different cities, it'd truly be a big deal. Several Indian regions and cities are not well represented in IPL atm. (although it's actually a franchise model)

Australia already is looking to add more teams to the existing 8 teams despite having significantly fewer cities and population.

Not Terrible
Guptill is one of the greatest T20 bats in the world but it looks like the IPL doesn't really bid for foreign bats at all anymore. Dumping their money in aggressive all rounders is the new strategy.

Oh and ****ing Eoin Morgan? Wtf

Pretty much the nightmare scenario.

For the sake of international cricket, I really hope it doesn't, it already impacts enough of the international calendar as it is, and I think it's way too long as it is. Would love to see it condensed to a smaller window as it is. However, sadly, the commercial reality is, you're probably right.

Nope, Australia is increasing matches not teams

I won't be judging the owners that quickly. Too many times players that I think would do well absolutely stinks it up in the tourney. Jos Buttler for example is one guy who should be destroying this tournament but he was below mediocre every chance he got.
