South African Domestic Season 2016/17

Wouldn't be surprised if Smit joins a county,as you said Seam Up at Derby 2nds last year.A victim of transformation policy.
But how is he a victim of transformation? Seeing as Morne Van Wyk took his position as wicketkeeper and Maharaj is their best spinner currently so how did transformation affect him?

He is missing out to players like Cody Chetty & Sibonelo Makhanya.

He is probably one of their best batsmen and a crucial part of a leadership group to bring younger players through. Through out the years in cricket, that cannot be under-estimated.

So hardened domestic professionals may seem ok to lose but successful cricket systems cant afford to do so.

We basically have dismissed the importance of our domestic game anymore so it probably doesn't matter now in the scheme of things.

Cody averages more than Smit for the Dophins and in 30 odd games has scored the same number of centuries Smit has scored but Smit has played three times as many games.

KNGHT 360/5 (90.1 ov, PE Kruger 0*, ACR Birch 1/57) - Stumps | Live Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo

Rudi Second with 151 off 200 balls. To me he is not your typical number 7 wk/batsman. Not a big hitter over the top or hard through the field. He has his strengths like the cut and nurdle to leg. You got to say he can hold his own as a batsman. Rossouw got 83 in his first game since Australia and Kolpak issue.

TITNS 114/3 (31.0 ov, HG Kuhn 8*, TG Mokoena 5*, RK Kleinveldt 0/33) - Stumps | Live Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo

Rain delayed the start for the majority of the day. Pity Elgar and Markram didn't make more of their starts.

Another interesting development at the Dolphins

Khan takes up assistant role at Dolphins

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins have confirmed the appointment of Imraan Khan as assistant coach of the franchise, heralding the end of the former left-handed opening batsman's playing career.

Khan will assume his role with immediate effect, and will serve in this capacity for the duration of current coach Grant Morgan’s contract.

The Durban born and raised all-rounder shot to fame as the captain of the SA Under 19 team that toured England in 2003 before earning his solitary test cap in the third test against Australia in 2009.

In all he played 161 first class games, scoring just shy of 10 000 runs as an exciting left-handed batsman, and taking 62 wickets with his more than useful off-spinners.

Khan was named Player of the Year in the then SuperSport Series in 2009.

Khan will join the franchise at a key stage in the Sunfoil series, where they are serious contenders for 2016/17 title.

He said the move from player to coaching was one that excited him, and he was looking forward to contributing to the team environment under Grant Morgan.

“It has been a pretty easy transition from player to assistant coach for me,” said Khan. "I have a good relationship with the players and have worked with Morgs (Grant Morgan) for a number of years at KZN Inland and then here at the Dolphins.

"I am excited about the challenge and am looking forward to learning from Morgs' experience as well as further my skills and ambitions as a coach."

Also of interest is that Qaasim Adams seems to have been frozen out at the Titans. Just playing club cricket. Not picked for Titans or Northerns.

In a shorts pace of time he has played for the Cobras, Titans, Lions (loan), Warriors (loan)

Also I see Craig Kirsten who we spoke about giving up cricket at a young age due to back injuries is now back in cricket with Tuks and doing quite well. The Varsity Cup starts soon and Ngidi was playing in it last year only. I imagine quite a few of the talented provincial and former SA u19 players will be involved.

Just had a look at Rudi Second's numbers and they do look good. Does he have the ability to step up or are his stats padded up by playing in Bloemfontein/Kimberly? @SeamUp

He has done it over a number of seasons now. He looks that gritty type who can play absorbing innings or attack. I think he probably could get a shot with the 'A' side but very competitive with Mangi Mosehle & Heinrich Klaasen around. I reckon Dane Vilas will be Kolpak soon so he won't be up for consideration.

But keepers is probably all immaterial. If we look after de Kock, it is his position for 10 years easily.

Have been looking through some of the U19 games and Mulder really has been doing well, long may it continue. Also does anybody know anything about Akhona Mnyaka, seems to be doing well and not reached 18 yet, but most importantly he is described as left arm fast... and Jade de Klerk, is this another spinner coming through?

Yeah, de Bruyn isn't injured. Back captaining the Knights in the run in for the 4-day title.

Maybe he was pushed down the order as he was late arriving from Cape Town. Kuhn was down the order for the Titans as well.

Another player retires,to take up coaching role.
This follows Vilas becoming a kolpak officially.

Wow their is going to be a lot of missing talent next season, the sides will be unrecogniseable.
Question is whether Franchises will pick kolpak players,if not the domestic cricket, will be a ghost town,
And that would put enormous pressure on the CSA launching of a premier T20 competition, next season.

May have been... but he retired hurt yesterday and I was just concerned. Just glad he was back playing this morning.

They have been managing him quite well. Obviously played loads of cricket for an 18 year-old.

Matt Breetzke and Raynard van Tonder as well. Both only 18 but been talked about for 4 years already as got into their first teams from grade 9 and played 3 years (from 16) of Coke Week which is rare. Big reputations like Mulder for a while now.

Jade de Klerk has been described as special by the coach. Seen him bowl. Really nice action. Still another year of school.

Haven't seen Mnyaka bowl but seen he is quite short. He looks the most likely to take wickets from the seam-bowlers bar Mulder and like you say still has another year at school. Sipamla and Cohen have been disappointing as the senior seamers. I think for the u19 CWC it should improve with guys like Gerald Coetzee (141 kph at 15) & Fraser Jones as striker bowlers. Couple of decent black seamer all-rounders in Thando Ntini and Mihlali Mpongwana which the team will need with Mulder and de Swardt not eligible.

Dolphins certainly changing things up.

D. van Wyk, Erwee, Delport, Van Jaarsveld, M.van Wyk, Frylinck, Savage, Dupavillon
Muthusamy, Chetty, Maharaj, Subrayen, Tahir, Alexander, Engelbrecht
Zondo, Makhanya, Phehlukwayo, Shezi

* A few of those won't be around for much longer as well.

Also seen they've given contracts to 18 year-olds Gavin Morris and Eathan Bosch fresh out of school from Hilton College and they've been put straight into the amateur team.
