Has the standard fallen this year? It has still be good entertainment but I don't feel like the quality has been as high as years previous.

Cutting, wow. I know Brendon backs his bowlers but sometimes he goes way too far in doing so. When you get a 5-run over from Ben Cutting, you take your money off the table and run. Baz unfortunately not that sort of gambler.

And whilst i love Colin, he's easy to bowl to in a one-over situation. 2 feet wide of off stump, just as Cutting did. So weird choices there.

Well done Perth on your Big Bash League title.

Was at the game last night and it is ****ing ridiculous how long the captains take to set fields

I'd be happy to see a rule introduced where the fielding side only had a certain amount of time to commence an over as it really detracts from the spectacle when you have to literally wait minutes virtually every time

ridiculous amount of fixing going on here

there's just no other way to explain lyon getting 4 wickets
Lyon was by >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the best bowler on show

By way of comparison, Swepson looked good when he actually bowled spin

Unfortunately, about 4 balls per over seemed to be medium-paced junk

Swepson has a habit, especially early on, of coming and bowling non-stop half-trackers for an over or so. I've seen him do it a few times and it's quite strange. One or 2 early on not that strange for a leggie, but he can literally bowl 5 or 6 in a row. Then on good days he can be absolutely perfect.

Lots of interesting theories going around for the Heats loss last night, but nobody's yet mentioned the elephant in the room, Alex Ross's 17 off 28 balls. Disgraceful in a T20 game out of a score of 167.

The records of the English players all seem pretty solid with bat and ball to be honest, and McCullum is one of the top run getters.
Bell's stats are flattering for how well he actually played

Billings and Roy were decent, without being outstanding. Luke Wright is always handy. No one was really exceptional apart from McCullum.

It's just how the Big Bash is set up that overseas players are not really superstars, or even much better than the locals much of the time, and as a result less likely to dominate compared to something like the IPL. Despite this people tend to expect overseas players to do something exceptional, not just be serviceable players.

Doesn't help that the West Indians have been almost universally useless.

everyone was mentioning it, it was discussed pretty thoroughly actually

During his innings it was, but post game seems it was all about Swepson, McCullum's captaincy & Cutting, but looking back even if Ross score at merely a run a ball, they get 180.

I think most of the overseas players have been poor, particularly with the bat.
Well yeah, the West Indians in particular were poor this time around.

But considering apart from that the BBL only gets some current English players, retired ex-international stars like Pietersen and McCullum & T20 mercenaries like Pollard, Bravo etc, it's not really a big surprise.

Was interesting to see Ish Sodhi who struggles to make NZ's ODI and Test side run through Sydney the way he did. Jeez that was an annihilation job. I see he averaged 7 with the ball in his 3 games with an ER of 6.

Considering the BBL get such great crowds, great facilities, nifty commentary & a great all-round TV package, it's a shame in a way they'll rarely get the best players going around with it being played when it is.

That's fine, though. Like was said a while back, it gives it much more of a domestic comp feel. It's franchise T20 after all, does absolute quality really matter that much?

Not actually that miffed with the Heat's season, Burns and Steketee actually being somewhat good at their roles this season was a big plus.

Things to do next season - Get a proper bowling attack, see if Ross can produce more than one flavour of gatorade next season as the permanent drinks carrier.

I can see your POV, but I'm looking at it from an overseas viewing perspective & not necessarily what's best for domestic player development. So yes, the higher the quality, the better from my standpoint.

Bell is a **** T20 player, so his returns are better than I expected. Purely a name signing, would have 4 Bears batsmen ahead of him alone.

Yup, Bell is fairly middle of the road, but without wishing to be insulting, there weren't many other middle order batsmen in the comp who were much better. Pietersen and a 58 year old Hodge the only ones that immediately spring to mind.
