Sochi with another good showing there I see. Bit weird that he's not in the squad for the CH after the pivotal role he played in the series decider last year.
Larsen pointed out that squad named was only for the first 2 ODIs which are likely to suit pacers more. He seemed to hint that Sodhi would be named from game 3 onwards reading between the lines.

It's endearing as **** that Sodhi's an even bigger stats nerd re cricket than most of us on Cricketweb.

Disappointed he caved when put on the spot about how many Test wickets Fleming took though, after all that build up.

Norma-Barnet has re-appeared. Assume playing as an overseas player.

However. I looked up how he's going in county cricket, not well. May be back for good?

While I was there I looked to see how some of the other NZ 'kolpaks' are going.

Mathew Quinn doing well for Essex. I thought he wa a bit of s dark horse for higher honours back here. Robust and trend of improvement each year.

Looked at Jamie Fuller. I see he has has an England A call up. For 50 over stuff. Looks like he barely plays FC stuff at all.

Broom had a mediocre year at Derbyshire in all formats. 2nd div team so that is quite poor. So maybe not a huge financial risk for him to have 'un-kolpaked' himself and taken the blackcaps callup.

Yeah he's an overseas player.

I know that ODI's are still a thing, but maybe the list A comp should be scrapped, or at least shortened?
I think you still want players playing domestic fifty over cricket. Even if it's not very important for selection and no-one really cares about it, it's important that they have the experience.

Looks like another good white ball innings from Clarkson yesterday, match winning.

Be interested to know why he went off the boil so much last year at u19 level. Simply struggle with overseas conditions and spin? this combined with a loss of form? Or his injury he got at same time IIRC that stopped him bowling effected his batting? Either way he flopped, but looks promising.
Clarkson looks a gun with both bat and ball - hope he can resume bowling soon.

Not a fan of ODIs myself. But see value in List A from a player development pov. Eg improving the block bashers into guys who can also work a gap. (But diabolical grounds line EPOO and Pukekura add absolutely no value to NZ player development , where the release valve is just a 50m hit away).

But it doesn't need an exclusive month long / 5 week block in the domestic calendar (which combined with T20 means a 3 month gap in Plunket Shield), because it isn't a money generator anymore. It should be fitted in, broken up, as to how best fits players feeding into the blackcaps calendar.

Giving Raval, Wagner, Watling 1 Plunket round before the next test in 6 weeks is an appealingly badly structured season.

But NZ still need to be good at Odis, therefore have decent List A - as a scary proportion of NZC revenue cones from icc as dividend from icc 50 over tournaments.

Rippon playing is interesting. I wonder if he's just doing it to fill in a gap and earn a bit of money or if he thinks he might stick around and try to qualify.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
I always liked the FC game followed by a corresponding List A game a day or more later than the 'have things in chunks'. Have the Super Smash in it's own window, sure, but they should have Plunket shield going on more than it currently is.

Also, each team should play each other 3 times in FC

KNB, why oh why would CD get him back.. Classic medium pacer bits and pieces player who doesn't deliver consistent runs. Their bowling looks weak today, maybe they are just desperate to play someone with experience.

Phillips doing well is great news, hope he plays first class cricket. Gets hundys. Will Young is having a shitter.
