Mumbai have Sharma and Rahane but no bowlers I think. On the other hand Delhi has Kohli, Dhawan, Ishant, Shami while TN get Vijay and Ashwin. Saurashtra outside runners with domestic beasts Poojara and the triple ton specialist.

I think Delhi is. Delhi has Gambhir too who still cracks it domestically.

Also, poor Abey Kuruvilla. Gets runout on first class debut to lose his team the Ranji final by 2 runs.

There are a couple of other really famous Ranji games apart from that epic final vcs mentioned.

One is the 2000/01 final which had Zaheer, Pathan, Nayan Mongia, Murali Karthik, Connor Williams (:wub:), Baroda legend Jacob Martin,etc. I lived in Baroda at the time and basically the entire city was watching it on television. Real nailbiter. Zaheer became a legend that day.

The other is the 99/2000 semifinal where Sachin played what he considers one of his best innings to send Mumbai through to the final.

I think post 2000, the interest in Ranji has decline really sharply. And the reason has to be the non-participation of the international players.

Is it even possible to keep up the pretense that, say, Kohli plays for Delhi? His last Ranji Trophy match was 2012!!

Even that is being extremely generous. That was a one off game that was essentially to figure out selections for the next test series. His last real game was in 2010.

I'd imagine Karanataka are the strongest team. They won last season but then lost a bunch of guys to India, India A Nd injury.
