Cool, Nofal coaches the kids of a couple of work colleagues. Sounds like a nice guy.
Good to hear about Nofal and being brought up at KES there is no doubt he will have the right values. I think he was on standby to make his debut for Wellington recently as an opener. Not really exposed at our top level.

Jeez, three former under 19 players. We really are starting to pick up a lot of these guys coming out of South Africa.

Obus Pienaar probably the most exposed of the three & I reckon it is safe to say he will have a major impact.

James Price could be anything. Didn't really get the opportunities and has all the strokes, so I am porbably most interested to see how he does.

Both of these two are really aggressive players.

wellington environment tho. has ruined many a young local player and brought in random australian club hacks for a few months before shipping them away in embarrassment.

hopefully changing with edgar at the coaching helm and not hacks like siddons and stuart.

speaking of random australian imports, who is nick winter and why are ND stooping to wellington levels? left arm medium with meh stats.

i don't really see the point

ND have a crossover thing going on with the Renegades. No doubt we'll see somebody playing for the Renegades in the not to distant future.

Fair to say Phillips is a decent keeper/batsman prospect too.
I'm a massive fan and obviously I need no encouragement to wax lyrically about a Howick player...but his keeping does need work. Has played back-up a fair bit to Brad Cachopa, I'm not sure he's kept consistently at club level either.

Absolutely. Has a serious eye and has advanced his game immensely from last year. Real good kid who just wants to get better.

I also really liked that the Aces threw up Finn Allen, even though Ben Horne was clearly the better man for the job. They know they have a real good one with Finn and wanted to get him into the game

Some great highlights there from Phillips. Didn't previously pick Raval for much of a hitter but he's quietly been very effective this season too.

Auckland must be fuming at missing out on the semi by 0.01 net run rate :/

It was an exciting game at the Basin today. Five overs games are actually pretty fun. The next form of cricket? All over in under an hour!

The super over was a bit of a debacle though, took an age to get going, even though it had become a very sunny day. The umpires weren't sure if it was allowed, because the game had already been reduced to the minimal overs possible. Much checking of rulebooks ensued. When it did eventually get going Pollard sure smoked Wagner ... a super over is an unusual situation, but makes me wonder if they're right in not selecting Wagner for white ball cricket. Still weird he's never been given a shot, I spose.

Amazing that all the cards fell into place for Wellington to get a home semi. Don't think I see anyone beating CD with Jayawardene, Taylor and Ryder in the side, though.

Yeah was surprised Allen came in as early as he did but it was good. Looked nervy and tried a bit much but there's obviously talent there.

Horne was gun from ball 1.

Yeah, pretty unlucky.

Even though they were behind by D/L, they definitely would have backed themselves to defend their total yesterday if it hadn't rained. Mahela and Worker were going well, but with Taylor not playing and Bruce in the Black Caps it was a depleted middle order.

So yeah, the most attractive wickets via leg spin in the T20 this season may well have come from 1) Jeets and 2) Rhys Phillips.

Great to watch Phillips smash a hundred. That was a serious knock, didn't see slogging and was a mature inning. He's the top scorer in the twenty20 comp. If he's this good right now, imagine with some maturity and in an international set up with all the support what he could do. Very glad to see Auckland banking on their up and coming players in a must win game yesterday. I'm sure lot of their younger ones will be excited to play this sport and will look forward to playing for Auckland.

Always a firebirds supporter but at the end of the day would have supported Auckland over Wellington just because they backed their younger players. Although it wasn't between Firebirds and Aces, would have loved to see Auckland go all the way to the finals. Wouldn't care a damn if Firebirds gets smashed. The Wellington A's has I think about 5 or 6 players that have started to play club cricket in Wellington since this year or last year. Might as well call the team Combined XI or something. Some of them have barely done anything at club level either. I can see things not changing in our set up, in fact it will get worse. I'd be advising our local players to try a hand elsewhere. If firebirds go on to win the semis, rest assured there will be few more near 40s queuing up to play next year. If Firebirds lose, they will still bring in imports/near 40s to bolster. No doubt these players can play but how does a local relate to this team? Although I can't fathom Cantabs going all the way and winning yet again I won't be too fussed if Firebirds don't win anything this year.

Bit of a difference between Glenn Phillips and Henry Walsh and Raki Weerasundara tbh. Phillips crushed it for Auckland A down at Lincoln two summers ago, Wellington's youth seems to want to hoist any old 20 or 30 up the flagpole and demand you salute it.

wish CD had Doug and Milne up the sleeve this season. We're already a bit depleted with no Bruce or Wheeler so I'm not confident CD can bring this home but I'm hopeful.

Mahela
Worker
Ross
Jesse
Bruce
Clarkson
Cleaver
Dougeh
Milne
Wheeler
Kain

that team would be fun

i reckon glenn phillips gets elevated to NZ T20 btw. T20 is a good format to have a look at him in and hopefully we can make a good ODI cricketer out of him too.

I was partially impressed by McCone's speed yesterday. Dunno what the TV said speedwise but he looked the quickest live, even compared to Tymal Mills.

Pity about the control and all the other things you need to be successful.
