Lyon record in Asian conditions is mediocre at best.. 2016 SL tour . 3 tests 16 wicks@ 32 sr @ 58. India 2013. 15 w @37 sr @50. Take off your steel capped boots and toss em.
OK then lets look at spinners in the last two years in Oceania.

What rest of "my **** spinners" Referring to Agar? For your info Agar has experience on the sub cont. He toured there in late 2015 as part of an A squad. What is more he performed very well.

Those are moderate when you consider that he is bowling on decks conjusive to spin.
Lyon uses bounce instead of spin and grip, he cant bowl like Ashwin does in Australia and get selected in the Australian team.

BTW Would you like to talk about India's fast bowlers on decks conjusive to fast bowlers.

Dammit couldent help myself:

LOL, go check out Warnes figures in India mate. Asian wickets maybe conducive to spin, but that does not mean they are conducive to Aus (or Eng, SA, NZ) spinners.

You might suck in the folk at Whirlpool with these lines, but they aint gonna wash here bud.

Yeah nothing too much wrong with Lyon's numbers in India and SL. Don't pull up UAE cause they's UG-LY.

Lyon should and will play all four tests in India if he performs similarly to his record in Asia. But he isn't the guy who's going to win tests for us against India. We might not have such a bowler, but SOK should be given every opportunity to find out if he can.

Cartwright is poised to add his name to that list this week, with selectors tipped to make two changes to the XI that surged to a remarkable final-day, series-deciding win over Pakistan at the MCG last Friday. Left-arm spinner Steve O’Keefe is expected to return to the starting line-up in place of seamer Jackson Bird, while Cartwright seems likely to slot into Nic Maddinson’s berth in the middle-order and provide some bowling back-up for overworked strike pair Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.
Out of Africa, Hilton aims to follow Kallis | cricket.com.au

Fingers crossed they do actually do this rather than the Agar batting top 7 madness that has been floated.

Birdy a bit stiffed again tbf.

Bowling in India in the last few years has been a lot easier than it was in Warne's time tbf.

And he more than made up for it in other parts of Asia, which Lyon hasn't.

Those Australian roads hey? Impossible to get wickets on. Everyone tons up every game.
They are Roads!! Just because Pakistani batsmen (typically) threw their wickets away and Starc bowled really well at the end .. doesn't change the facts!

Chennai Test recently was a super road, but it still had a result, so having a result doesn't mean the pitch is all of a sudden a good test wicket.

Run-rates are soo much better, batsmen are far less patient, thus games are moving sooo fast that draw is always highly unlikely thesedays, unless there's rain..

Lyon bowled a better pace for Indian conditions here. Bet he bowls slower and loopier when he gets there. I hope he doesn't but I fear he will.

About 0.4 on matches played in the 90's, that's in Australia.

So much enjoying TNT with his steel capped boots today. :) Bringing the high pitched voices back to unreasonable arguments.

I get that - I'm enjoying the clarity of the numbers you present, while another part of me is being like that kid in the Simpsons who always goes "haha".

Some interesting numbers, so Lyon's taking about 3 or so wickets a match at 32. How many runs per over is he going at?
For me if he can learn to tie down an end more effectively he'll have what he needs. I'm not expecting that in India but I'd like it before the Ashes or Root will just own him.

You're comparing an all time great period of batsmen for Australia versus a period where they're playing people like Maddinson and are "stuck" with Shaun Marsh/Mitchell Marsh over the last few years. So for a batting line up that doesn't include Hayden, Langer, Ponting, Waugh, Martyn, SWaugh, Gilchrist to be hitting at a higher strike rate than them is an indictment on how flat the pitches are at the moment.

And any further argument can simply be met with "Voges"

I'm not actually, I only looked at the teams that visit and used ENG, PAK,WI, IND and NZ batsmen and compared their run rates from the last ten tears to the 90's.
