you better not be ragging on impalas budI grew up playing against Warner, and I'd never seen anything like it in terms of pure pace off the bat, and that was using an Impala as an Under 17.

When I try to find this advantage to the batsmen I cant find where it is, bowlers in the last ten years have taken more wickets per match (30.5) than the 90's (29.4) and 80's (29.7). Batsmen have only increased their output per wicket by 2 runs per wicket and teams do bat deeper than previous so I think that's where the extra runs come from. Batsmen definitely score faster that's for sure but that is good for the game and I would hate to see efforts made to slow the game down. There used to be a trade off between using a heavy 3lb bat and a lighter one that was say 2lb 7. That trade off was bat speed and control. Very few people could create the same bat speed with a 3lb bat as with the lighter one. A lighter bat allowed a player to play later and generate more bat speed.
Modern bats don't have the trade off. Light and big with a larger profile than the old 3lb bats. It's an advantage to the batsman with no comparable technology shift to help bowlers. Drs is how they are trying to even it out.
I played cricket for 20 years and I dont think that there would've have been 50 leading edges that cleared the ring and went for 4 in those matchesYeah edges never went for four runs in the 90's. Those guys in the 90's only ever hit the middle of the bat, wow they were the days.
Go to your local sports store and you'll find that they are all massiveIf there's no trade off, then why don't all players have Warner-sized bats? Oversimplification in my book.
Agreed.I played cricket for 20 years and I dont think that there would've have been 50 leading edges that cleared the ring and went for 4 in those matches
Warner probably does it 20 times a season and whilst he has very fast hands, he also benefits from playing with a bat that basically has 3 faces on it
Give him Barry Richards' bat to use and many of those simply lob straight up in the air so he would be forced to change his game
Do you think batting is easier now than it was, say 10 years ago?Agreed.
Batsman nowadays definitely have it easier.
It's so much easier to score runs with faster outfields, considerably better bats, smaller grounds..
Thats why usually ..a 100 now doesn't feel as special as it used to.
While Warner's bat is definitely on the large side of the spectrum, all bats these days are ****ing huge. One of the guys in my team has one of Maddo's bats that he used for net sessions and it's like a ****in' tree trunk, it's ridiculous. If there's no trade off, then why don't all players have Warner-sized bats? Oversimplification in my book.
Wouldn't be before time. That's a nuisance. Time for the lower-middle order to step up.
