Karun Nair's 100 to 300 conversion rate: 100%

Infact, this is the first time Karun Nair has passed 13 runs in an innings. The gap between his previous highest score and his current highest score is 290 runs. Surely that's some sort of record?

On the other hand, I think India should be bold, and actually drop Murali Vijay, let Parthiv Patel open and accomodate Karun and Rahane for the Aussie series.

Patel's domestic stats are same as Vijay's and actually has scored more runs and tons than the latter. Plus he scores at a higher rate than Vijay.
And Vinay Kumar's domestic stats are way better than all other fast bowlers currently playing for India. Lets have him back.

Anyway, forget about being the worst ever test 300 maker - that's a lock

I seriously doubt that Karun makes a 100 outside India
Remember that outside India includes West Indies. A place where Ajay Ratra scored a century.

Its one thing when you let Cook or Clarke score triple hundreds, but to let a third choice reserve batsman make one? I imagine this is embarrassing and humiliating tstl.

Sobers maiden century was that triple, might he have a case?

BARNES OUT
Cricket is crazy. I looked at my phone a few hours ago and he'd just gotten 200, I get home from the pub and he's made 300. Hectic.

Wouldn't have gotten there if the ATG Ben Stokes had bowled 25 more overs tbh.

Karun Nair was so calm & composed the entire innings even after reaching the various milestones. Was totally unaffected by anything whatsoever!

He kept playing to the situation, for instance, when aggressive stroke play was required, he fearlessly played his shots without worrying about getting out & missing out on some milestone. Put the team first with constant timely boundaries, including in the partnership with Ashwin (who himself was batting slow & selfishly) And Nair remained hungry as ever, I guess it helps that he already had a triple in Ranji Finals!

If he can sort out his technique against the moving ball, he'll be a very handy player in yrs to come.

I'm beginning to think this England team peaked in South Africa and then the arsehole fell out. Yes, India were probably always going to beat England but it is the sheer gulf in class that is surprising. England have won, four/five tosses, and the wickets are hardly rank turners!! Even the Indian seamers (Yadev etc) have been much better than the English seamers and that is supposed to be our forte!! Rashid and Moen Ali are shockingly bad, and even Root - well, it is now frankly comical placing him in the same class as Kohli and Smith (that is how we are having to reassess England, from this tour).
There is something intrinsically rotten about the culture of the side. We see it in England when the poor dears have to play in London, and we've seen it whenever they play elsewhere in conditions that don't completely suit them. And we always see it in the last test of a series, wherever it's being played. Obviously it would help if the cba to hold into catches more often than we see at present, but it goes beyond that. You'd hope that having an Australian coach would help them to man up a bit, but there isn't much sign of that. I genuinely don't think it helps having a captain who gives the impression that he's rather be at home on the farm helps at all. I thought it rather nice of Kohli to provide a bit of instruction in addition to the master class that he'd provided in the last test - you know, the stuff about needing to be patient and score slowly at first to build an innings when playing in India. I wonder how many of them were listening.

I don't think it's cultural, I just don't think we are very good outside of our comfort zone.

btw can we all take a minute to crown James Anderson as the new Philander

> has an 8 day breather before the series deciding game
> bowls 20 overs in 5 days
> 4 day break
> sees a couple of pictures floating around the internet of groundsmen bbqing the pitch
> "nah i'm a bit sore, i think i'll sit this one out" jk guys chill "It's not worth the risk," Cook said. "When he has been in this situation over the last six months and we have played him, he has picked up injuries.

Given matches in India account for 50% of India's matches (figure in the rest of subcontinent, it would be around 70-75%), I wouldn't really lose sleep over it if he can deliver like this in India. Imagine if Australia had discarded Ponting because he couldn't buy a run in India (till I think his last series or so).

Yeah, but our comfort zone is becoming an increasingly narrow thing. Look, I know I'm ranting a bit at the sight of the scorecard, and I'm aware that I can get away with boring folks on CW in a way that I couldn't in real life, but I do think there's an attitudinal aspect to this. And at the risk of sounding like Burgey, which really would worry me, I do wish we had a Border-like figure to put the fear of god into some of these guys. But I don't know where that's going to come from, unless Joe Root has fooled us all over the years.

Anderson must be so happy to have not played, protecting his statistics like that.

I think Cook should go. Terrible captaincy.

It comes down to the captain IMO,he's not leading from the front, and I don't think he has a nasty enough attitude for it, we should be doing far better than we are with the quality of player we have.
