***Official*** Pakistan in Australia 2016/17

S.Kennedy

International Vice-Captain
I think Smith's captaincy was rubbish personally. He makes Cook look like Steve Waugh.

Excellent spirit and determination from Pakistan. Hopefully they can take heart from that and beat the Australians in the next two tests.

Very Pakistan way to finish.

But so so good. What an effort from the Pakistanis to turn a flogging into a great match
it was Smith that turned it into a great match, Pakistan still got flogged by 5 wickets and 40 runs.

Nah, just arrogant to assume Pakistan only got close because of Smith's captaincy. My boi Shafiq turned it into a great test, not Smith.

So when are you guys going to finally accept Lyon's mediocrity
Lyon was ordinary but captaining of him was worse

No idea how he is supposed to get wickets with some of the fields set for him and then when he does, he is taken off

Doesnt look as if Smith rates him at all

I'm not sure that's relevant. Pretty sure when it gets to the last over, you'd rather the tailender/nightwatchman face the bowling and risk his wicket because if he gets out, the day ends there and Pakistan still have a chance with Shafiq still in. You shield the tailender before that not just to protect his wicket but also because if the guy gets out, you immediately have the next batsman in facing another few uncomfortable deliveries.
if you think Shafiq turns down that third run for his ton in the second last over yesterday but doesn't do so in the last due to team tactics, you've got a higher opinion of him (and most other cricketers) than I do. That is just so unlikely.

There's only so far you can take the whole "Lyon isn't effective because of Smith's captaincy" before you have to accept that there's maybe some other reason(s) involved

should have done a tribute when that bastard retired
the only tribute needed tbh:

No I don't think he does. He's got some, of course. But I don't think he knows how he did it.

of course, my angry at hilf's selection has little to do with the man himself. i'm sure he's a good man, tasmanian and all. but i just find it infuriating that a person who performed so badly, so utterly terrible, during the ashes and has hardly done anything since (was that 5 wicket haul featuring 4 victorians who usually bat 7 to 11 really that impressive?) can come back. Now I know you're gonna point out all the injures, but we all knew the dropping of Hilf was a reluctant one. The guy still got ****ing picked for the 5th Ashes test for heaven's sake. Did we cut the CA contract? Nope. We sent him to the Aus A tour where he was in a battle with Copeland and Siddle instead! And where of course he utterly terrible. Was that the last straw, at least in the short term? Of course not! He got picked for Aus A against NZ where even Starc outperformed him. He was so so so bad during the ashes. It may have actually been the worst series performance by an Australian bowler in an Ashes series, keeping in mind this was over 4 tests. So many flaws got shown up; the lack of threat posed by him of course being at the forefront. So after 6 ****ing FC games, at an average of over 30, where his two best bowling performances have featured cleaning up the tail, he's fixed them? I'm deadly serious when I say give me Josh ****ing Lalor instead. Are we gonna pick Hughes asap if he scores two 50's in his Shield games at the end of the season and claims his bad form was because his pet Dog Buster died?

But hey good luck on boxing day buddy. Given you average 65 at the MCG you'll need it

Time to admit Lyon is crap. Blaming Smith's captaincy is fun but takes too much of the blame when it comes to Lyon not delivering. He's just not good enough. Probably would've lost Australia the test anyway if Smith had trusted him more.
