The new laws won't change much. It isn't just the size that makes modern bats so deadly, it's the weight distribution. The sweet spot is massive,which is why you don't need to "middle" it in the traditional sense to see the ball fly away.

It will impact how fast he scores I think. Plays more half shots that fly than nearly all the other bats. The size does contribute I feel.

Looks genius when he gets lucky though and gets away with his french cuts & mishits in between fielders. He's just that sort of player who's always needed a lot of luck to get big runs. To his credit, he hits the ball hard enough to make his own luck.

It's not that he just scores runs when he's lucky. He scores runs without mishittong the ball or without giving chances. It's that he keeps doing the same dumb arse stuff. How many times has he been caught playing that 45 degree bat pull shot of his? He's an incredibly clean hitter of the ball, but he's one dimensional and he's a slogger. Let him slog at six or seven. Get some **** in who values their wicket to open.

Lol, Smith must go through an unlucky patch at some stage of his career where he nicks off early instead of playing and missing, doesn't get dropped & gets given out on close ones.

No, I was making an observation of the obvious. Pakistan have make these very same mistakes and paid the very same price for those mistakes (for how long now???). It's also clear their attitudes to fielding have hardly if at all improved from the days when Inzamam Ul Huq was sauntering around the field.

I would, they've already got enough runs. A lead a 450 (90 runs away) is ample.

I know, but never give a sucker an even break, why let them start their chase tomorrow in daylight where they might get some batting confidence for the rest of the series, why not get them in tonight and make them jump around under lights again. They're not chasing 450.

Meh given the size of the lead I think sacrificing an extra 60-70 runs is an adequate tradeoff for 20 or so overs at Pakistan under lights with the new ball. By then the lead will be 450+ which is probably unchaseable.
