Whatever it takes!!!
Mate do you understand why they very rarely give close to ground catches by the third umpire?? Because a 2 dimensional image is so hard to tell.

I'd have no problem if the onfield decision was out and Root reviewed it.....because the video is INCONCLUSIVE. So when the on field decision is out then there is not enough evidence to overturn.

I get that but you saw the zoomed image, right? When they rolled it forward, you can see when the bat hits the ground. And the bigger spike grouping happens then and you can see it even on the freeze frame on the frame next to what was used to arrive at the decision, bat hits ground, spike is huge across the screen. One frame earlier, bat does not hit the ground yet, thin spike, can only be the inside edge. And come on, the seam rotation changed direction pretty clearly in the first spin visiion they showed. Even the crowd made noise seeing that. I understand it is the kind of decision that does rile up the fans of the team it goes against but honestly, you cannot blame the umpire. Oxenford even said why he feels there was no doubt to Erasmus there.

That spike has to have been off the bat, bat hadn't hit ground when the spike was there when the ball went past the bat. If that had been Kohli and it hadn't been overturned the ones moaning would have moaned about that.

LOL, yeah there was a gap if you want to see one. I'm 100% certain that there was sufficient doubt there for the decision to have never been overturned.

FMD, no wonder Root has a **** conversion rate:ph34r:
I would grab a screenshot if I were watching this on a stream instead of on TV.:p

Umpires should under no circumstances listen to what Indian crowds think.

Kohli's a ****, though; he doesn't get benefit of the doubt.

Yeah, no test for 6 months then 12 in the next 6 months. Stupid way to do it.

In fact we will end up with 22 tests in 14 and a half months from next July which seems like burn out central for someone like Stokes.
I reckon there's a few in the side showing signs of burn out. It would explain some of the shocking performances we've seen in 3rd sessions this tour.

That was conclusively out. Daylight between bat and ground, daylight! The big spike was right at the moment of impact with ball.. If thats not an edge, nothing is.. crazy that people are going by what the batsman thinks.. Even stokes in a previous match was comvinced he was not out, yet he was out!

Root was swinging his bat so 'hard' (sweeping) that he possibly didn't feel the edge!
And then a fraction of second or so later, he may have brushed the ground too so that couldve deluded him too..

Batsman is not always the right judge of whether there was edge or not!

We're in a decent position here. Kept the run-rate under control and got Root. 3 wickets before end of day's play would put us in the box seat.

No one was saying that the inconclusive nature of it was because he thought he hadn't hit it...

England's session, regardless of the wicket. Whilst 182-3 isn't as good a position as they'd like, England still look good value to make a big score.

India's spinners haven't looked all that threatening, and England bat stupidly deep.

Because he didn't............that snicko was bat hitting ground FFS.

There is no way they give catches close to the ground like that..........2 dimensional image and all that.

Roots been sawn off there for sure.
Whilst there's an argument over whether that's out or not, I don't think there's much of an argument over whether the third umpire should have given it out.

The evidence was hardly sufficiently conclusive to overturn the on-field call.
Yeah agree. Not enough to overturn imo.

I thought he maybe hit it tbh. But there wasn't enough to give it out. Not a howler though. Just a weird way to use the DRS procedure which goes against precedence.

Crapinfo commentator had deluded his readers but has clarified now, a bit later on in the commentary..

"Looked like there was definitely bat on the Root dismissal. The spike could not have been anything else."

Unless pitch changes significantly, this looks like one of those slow Roads..
500 v 500 and then some rain later in match and ultimately a draw.
