Home pitches hide Virat Kohli 'flaws' - James Anderson | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo

Its one thing to be cheeky and make pertinent points. This is at Gambhir levels of "come to India and you will see" :p Such an utter **** person he is.

EDIT: Saw his interview to Sky Sports and Ian WArd just now. Its not really that bad as Dobell seems to have picked and chosen certain sentences he said a bit out of context really. My apologies to Anderson and the CW England fans here. Leaving what I originally posted on to ensure I taste it hard. :) He was actually being pretty honest there and guess he does (and IMO wrongly) believe that they can counter Kohli much easier in those conditions. But most things he said there were fair enough and I dont think he mentioned anything about Ashwin and Jadeja the way Dobell has put it. What a **** Dobell is if this interview is what he is using to write this story.
Your fault for taking George Dobell seriously.

Assuming England lose this match and lose the series 3-0 (Chennai Test may be rain affected) and Cook gives up the captaincy. Do we see this being the side for England when they line up in June, assuming form and fitness (and behaviour :p ) holds up?

Cook
Hameed
Jennings
Root (c)
Stokes
Bairstow (wk)
Ali
Woakes
Rashid
Broad
Anderson

Just looks a lot more balanced and with Ali at 7 playing more as a batting all rounder, he will get his wish fulfilled as well.
No we do not need 6 bowlers. Cook doesn't know who to use and when with so many. A specialist batsmen at number 5 and Stokes at 6. Jennings also bowls so we would have 7 and a half bowlers.

Not sure there's much need for England to have Anderson, Broad, Woakes, Stokes, Moeen, and Rashid all available as bowling options in a home test match. Particularly with Root and Jennings both capable of chucking down a few when required.

Drop Rashid for Buttler to give some more batting. Bring Rashid in for the odd pitch that actually turns.
The problem England have is that Rashid is probably the better spinner over Mo, but Mo is in all likely hood in the top 6 best bats in the country. So assuming you are going to pick the best spinner, that gets Rashid in and then you're picking Moeen as a batsmen anyway.........so you've still got all these bowling options.

If only Moeen was consistently out bowling Rash then the selection would be easy for Englands home summer, or if only we had some decent batting options to bring in.

Nah Anderson still said slower pitches cover Kohli's weaknesses, which isn't correct considering everyone has been saying that he prefers pace on the ball until this series when he finally dominated a home tour. Kohli is one of the few bats (maybe also Rahane) who prefer faster pitches than slower ones. Where he falls over is movement in the air of course (and he's not alone there).

Dobell is usually wrong or sensationalises but Anderson's comments were quoted correctly and still deserve to be called out imo. Shows a mindset of blaming the conditions rather than concentrating on dropped catches, poor bowling and bad tactics.

Whatever it takes!!!
Another factor is that Indian batsmen havent made anywhere near the numbers of mistakes their English counterparts have. None of the wickets have been wild turners but too often the batsmen have looked in a daze. There's not much between Rashid and Ashwin (Ash has the better avg, Rashid the better sr) but the situation in which the wickets have occurred is a major issue.

Tell me how much do you cry every night as India keep dominating?

Yeah.. My opinion is that whoever is captain (Cook or Root) should start treating Anderson, Broad, Rashid and Woakes as his main bowlers and Stokes and Ali are his batsmen who bowl and use them accordingly. 3 4- over spells for Stokes and maybe a couple of 5 over spells for Ali and that should be it. This is how you start defining and shaping a side. Cricket is not played on statistics and that is why everyone who crows about stacking sides with all rounders, stacking sides with just seamers coz of the bowling averages etc. are so wrong. Its ok to play the same personnel but the team management, the selectors and the players themselves should all be sure what their main role in the side is. In today's game, everyone is expected to make contributions across departments but it helps when someone can tell you what your main role is expected to be.

Yeah.. He did say that Joni and I said I thought that was wrong. But as an overall interview and the tone and stuff, I think Anderson was not as bad as Dobell makes it out to be. Anderson is a bit of a **** and we all know it, he just seems to be a **** kinda person and so you expect him to whine a bit like that. But it was not as bad as the article makes it out to be and that is my point. Also, in the interview he was paying a lot more kudos to how well the Indian players played than what Dobell is letting us know in that article and that's obviously not fair to ol' Jimmy.

And Spark, I know, right? I tweeted him after Vizag saying that he got it wrong in the article and that drift is something you get in the air and not off the pitch and he blocked me on twitter.

Did you mean to say Rashid there? If so I agree with your thinking.

At the moment we just don't have specialist batsmen knocking the door down for selection, if we did then certainly rethink the make up of the side. Despite the fact we may lose this series 3 or 4 nil, the major positive England can take from it is the (albeit brief) performances of both Hameed and Jennings........it would be massive for us if one or both of them really do work out long term.

But as it stands at the moment both Stokes and Ali can justify their position in the side based on their batting alone so you can play them as you say as batting allrounders, with Jimmy, Broad, Woakes and Rash as the main bowlers.

That was a great delivery. Bairstow hardly doing much wrong. May have spun too much though. Probably missing.
