I was being condescending because it was a really stupid ****ing question

whether or not you agree doesn't matter but either way it's obvious as to why someone would say its a good selection, ie. He will perform as well or better than anyone else

weird huh?
Don't be absurd mate. Have you had your head under a rock, or have you heard that there have been very valid criticisms of Wade's keeping over a lengthy period of time?

It's hardly a "really stupid ****ing question" to ask why someone thinks Wade is "as good a selection as someone else" when there's been plenty of criticism of his keeping.

Just tread carefully here RH........keep in mind you are arguing with a guy who has been the most intelligent person in every team he's ever played in.

Why didn't you just say that from the start? You need to make your point from the start instead of asking a bunch of boring leading questions and taking 4 or 5 posts to get to the point. I've seen you do it a few times recently.

You don't think Wade is the best keeper-batsman in Australia. There. Just say that next time.

disappointing, you've been so well behaved lately

I'll keep in mind that comprehension is not a strength for you. That's ok, not everyone gets everything without it spelled out.

Cos I'd assume when someone said that Wade is "as good a selection as someone else" that you'd be referring to keeper batsman. Because Wade is a keeper-batsman. In future interactions with you, I'll try to spell out every detail in case your comprehension doesn't follow fairly basic conversation conventions.

can you just stop it? What do you gain from being a boring, annoying, trolling prat?

If you want to have a sensible discussion then do it. I just don't understand what you get out of starting an argument when it's not necessary?

What are we even arguing about?

edit: and yes, when I say Wade is "as good a selection as someone else", of course that's what I mean. I wouldn't say it if it isn't what I meant to say FFS

at least be funny when you troll like Adders, not just boring

So you think Wade is the best keeper-batsman in Australia? If you were sole selector, would he be your choice as long term (next 3 years, say) keeper?

Pretty comfortably IMO

But that's just my opinion, which I'm able to express without resulting to personal insults

So you think he'll be good enough as a keeper on the subcontinent and in England?

Dont carry on mate. It's unbecoming.
honestly, this is such a boring and pointless conversation. You're doing that tedious leading question thing again. You know what I think, I've said it several times already.

Not an all time great, but his bowling in the last home Ashes series is probably the greatest display of pure fast bowling, only matched by Michael Holding's 1976 England tour.

What? Go now and watch it. The ball nipped away a tiny bit on pitching, like a matter of centimeteres. Cook missed it by a foot. Even if the ball didn't move off the deck at all, or even moved in a bit toward the bat Cook still would have missed it.

It was a solid ball, but Cook absolutely did make an arse of the shot
Cokk played it on around middle (which it had wobbled towards in the air) and it hit off. (which it decked towards off the pitch) It was a very good delivery. If it didn't move off the deck he probably would have hit it on the leg side, as was his intention.

I'd argue that Johnson's bowling throughout the 2013/14 ashes > Holding throughout the 1976 tour of England. Obviously the latter was immense at The Oval, but I don't recall our guys being marmalised throughout that series by Holding in the way that Johnson did last time down under.

Other contenders might be Thomson in 1974/75, Tyson 20 years earlier and Larwood 20+ years before that.

EDIT
In fairness to Holding, his performance at Old Trafford wasn't too shabby either.

Alderman 1989 did a massive number on England, but obviously not through pace.
Unquestionably on both counts. I was just responding to Kirkut's discussion of pure fast bowling performances.

Another pace contender could be Rodney Hogg in 1978/79, although it's easily forgotten due to the hammering his side received. IIRC his series figures were astonishing.

Imran Khan was in god-mode against us in early 80's, but I never counted him as an express bowler, more like a really quick bowler who can bend it miles in the air.

Bryan Young

How good was he back in the day, he had all the shots in the book and had a flash of arrogance when putting bowler under the pump.

Superb cricketer who never really got the most out of his talent at the international level, save a couple appearances.
