Latham's form has gone south since the India tour. Guppy on the other hand..
He shouldn't be playing ODIs. He is fine for tests. I agree he did not play well against Pakistan but he did his job and saw off the new ball most of the time. I still feel there is value in that in an opener for tests.

Who would open for you CM?
I have no real knowledge of our domestic system, so I wouldn't have a clue.

But I would love to see chances being given to players who have been performing at the domestic level.

It feels like Latham was brought into the LOI teams based off his performances at the Test level.

Agreed. Test performance does not warrant a ODI spot.

Guptill needs a new bat, get the feeling this one will get him out..

Doesn't sound right at all..

Latham is worth a shot in ODIs - against two new balls we need the cake and it's usually worth it to pay in a lower strike rate at the start of the innings. It's not like he's Mark Richardson and completely bereft of attacking shots either. That's fine when chasing 300 like a regular ODI, but unfortunately when chasing 380 any type of SR sacrifice is not ok, so Latham's not right for this situation.

If you're going to bat Colin de at #8, you may as well open with him. Wouldn't be the worst move. Having said that, I think Latham will get there. Has all the shots, just hasn't worked out international cricket yet.

Take it easy Guptil. Play conventional shots. No need to give yourself room or charge down the wicket. You're good enough to put the bad ball away.

What I don't understand is why they don't use a floating player more often. I'd have pushed Munro up the order and let him have a swing.
Yeah, think I meant one of Anderson or Munro to open and the other down the order.

Munro would probably be better.

A little brainless for him not changing his bat to be honest, the chances of him lofting a ball and having the bat break during the hit and taking the pace off the ball is too high of a chance.

Average of 28 @ a SR of 75 after 39 games if you exclude Zimbabwe.... those numbers would be considered horrible stats for a batting A/R let alone a damn opener..

He didn't change his bat?! I thought he did. I was not watching, just listening but thought they brought some bats out for him.
