I also just don't think that level of analysis is quite at the cutting edge. There's a precision coming into the game about where players should shoot and cross from, for example, that we see especially in Tuchel. I think the challenge for the next generation of coaches is introducing that precision while keeping the game either fun or important for the players. What Simeone has done in combining pure collective rage with extreme positional discipline in defence- someone's going to do it in attack. Klopp might even be getting there.It's one thing being able to identify weakness in a side, it's another thing entirely to communicate that to your charges and get them to stop making mistakes.
Neville and Carragher don't seem to have the patience for that precision at all. Still a bit of 'just have a go' about them.
