The guy use to bowl at a useful pace of 83 mph out swing and he was a handy lower order batsman i am shocked it has been 9 years since he played a test match

Highly useful when the pace was there, highly unuseful when it wasn't.

Probably should have ended with better figures than he did, same with Zaheer Khan, but bowling in those Indian dust pits isn't a fun thing for pace bowlers.

can someone please make a 'slippy888 poses questions about cricketers you may have forgotten about' thread?
Slippy just needs to add their stats too in the OP and at this rate, in 2-3 years, we can have an archive of all cricketers in CW :)

Would have been a better bowler if he had to actually learn how to swing the ball. When he lost the ability, it made it almost impossible for him to get it back.

Still a handy player. Bats well, fields well, bowls handy medium pace cutters.

I think he could do a much better job for our ODI side than a Binny or Hardik. And given the selectors recent picks, maybe a recall isn't too far away.

He was having a pretty good FC season a while back but he just can't stay on the park for too long.

Maybe slippy's a selector and we don't know

Darren Sammy

Just seen him smash a 50 off 25 balls against a very high class bowling attack in the titans, surely Sammy should still be in one day international and 20 20 team for West Indies.

Nathan Lyon

I dont know how this man has 213 test career wickets but he is heading towards 300 test wickets, so we have to start to take his bowling seriously this man Lyon is heading towards a elite 300 wickets club.

He is a fantastic bowler that isn't being utilised to his full potential IMO. Needs a captain more experienced with spin bowling and needs more faith from the selectors.

217 including the ongoing test.

He's exactly the kind of cricketer that appeals to me, the understated type who has a job and does it well, even if they don't grab headlines all the time. I know he's had his struggles recently, but as ***** said that can be attributed to the handling of him by his captain.

He's one of those whose contribution to the team will only be fully appreciated when he's gone (unless the next Warne happens to turn up)

He's very good for his limited talent. I irrationally dislike him immensely though and hope he doesn't do well so O'Keefe can take his place. Had enough of the pundits who told us Rogers would fail and Mitch Marsh was a top 4 bat saying that the SOK's not suited for Test matches. Poor guy's been doing so well in the Shield and 12 absolute dogshit spinners got picked one after the other ahead of him.

He's the WPNCOS tbf. And because he's a NCOS he operates at a distinct disadvantage to other off spinners currently playing test cricket who excel in their home conditions.

And he's a decent bloke with it. Unlike other off spinners currently playing test cricket who excel in their home conditions.

I think had O'Keefe been fit, he might have played this test. Lyon and O'Keefe are roughly on par as spinners AFAIC. Lyon has had a pretty lean patch, and was probably close to being dropped TBF. But every so often Lyon bowls a little spell that really weaves some magic, and it's very enjoyable to watch. His last over last night was an example of that.

I really think that Warne and Murali have wrecked the expectations of a generations of cricket fans about what a spinner should do. Saying things like
I dont know how this man has 213 test career wickets
and
we have to start to take his bowling seriously
sort of shows that some expect too much of spinners. Lyon is a very good spinner, and he is on par (at least) with plenty of bigger names from the past who others would rate above him.
