***Official*** England in India 2016/17

I seriously think it's the fascination with the all rounder, you've got Stokes, Woakes, Moeen and Rashid in this side, and you've played two keeper batsmen here.

In the case of Root, it's strange because he's finding weird ways to get himself out, but I think he's honestly attempting to set England up and realises you don't do that unless you're scoring at 3s or better in India.
Name a side in world cricket that Stokes wouldn't walk into.

Woakes and Rashid, while you may not rate them, are the best we have in their respective disciplines. The fact they can score a few can only be a good thing.

Would've agreed with you re. Ali two years ago, but he's shown he's just as good at scoring middle order hundreds as anyone else we've got.

And Buttler, has pretty much just scored as many runs in one innings as the 2 'specialist' batsmen did in the last 4 test matches.

Just have to pray we can make it to stumps with Bairstow not out and only another wicket down at most. Feel like we are going to get a real hammering in this one. Last test was at least competitive for 4 days

Stokes is fine, hell, even Woakes with Stokes is fine - but you've got a bunch of non specialists parading in the Top 7 as batting all rounders and that's never a good thing for test cricket.

Agreed. Moeen is not a top 6 batsmen.

He's a victim of the merry-go-round of toss we've been trying at 3 and 4. Never recovered from KP being a bell-end and Trott losing his bottle.

Buttler hit five fifties in his first 8 tests and averaged 50. He hit 0 fifties in his next 8, averaging 16. It's tempting to think of Buttler as unsuited to Tests but you can just as easily put his bad run down to form at the time. And it was a year ago, so
Yeah, he struggled in ODIs/T20s too during his bad run so you're probably right. It was like the occasion of the Ashes got in his head a bit, so he struggled which proceeded to mess up his confidence for ages. IIRC, the first time he made runs after that he'd had a let off on about 2 or something, then next game he smashed a century off 46 balls, so maybe he's a bit of a confidence player.

Yup, English administration and the KP fiasco was complete bollocks, the guy was your best and just because the clique of Cook, Broad and Anderson didn't like him, he got dropped

At the same time, Bell is out of the game, Trott is out of the game, Prior is no longer there and Swann has left, which really makes it hard on the few veterans of previous sub continent tours.

Abysmal...absolutely abysmal by England. Some of those shots, what were they thinking? This isn't slap dash t20 cricket, it's the same belligerent attitude they played with against Pakistan at times, thinking they could smash any ball and any bowler for 6.

Abysmal.

Just don't seem to have the patience, tenacity or testicular fortitude to play proper cricket at the moment.

I don't know if this team is going through Test match cricket overkill?

Is the mental toughness of touring India playing a v. good Indian team?

Is it the god awful Indian music and the lack of high quality Indian food that you find in the UK.

Is it ODI and 20/20 cricket influence?

Is it Trump?

Whatever it is we are playing clown shoes cricket and it's like pulling teeth to watch.
heh good one.
