wade's done literally nothing recently though. he almost certainty has been picked due to "aggression" (that is, he'll call you a ****). I think they may have forgotten his poor body language when things are going bad though...

I think he's just been picked because they wanted to drop Nevill and he was regarded as the next best keeper/batsman. I don't think it goes any deeper than that at all.

they shouldve picked patterson but lets be fair to mad dog here, his form towards the back end of the matador was good and he made a ton last shield game.

he hasn't been banging the door down but it's not like he's done nothing at all either

NUFAN

Y no Afghanistan flag
Renshaw, Handscomb, Maddinson, Wade and Sayers are all beautiful creatures and I for one can't wait to see numbers 447, 448, 449 and possibly number 450 in the baggy green.

We are going to have 6 left handed batsman in our top 8 now.

First time 3 debutant batsman in top 6 since the Kim Hughes and Rebel Tour debacle.

MADDINSON V PATTERSON

I'm in the Patterson corner. We may laugh but I actually think the 'intent' and 'gut-feel' is what they've picked Maddinson on. But also possibly the fact he is more suited 5 and 6 than Patterson is ? How is Maddinson against spin ? He can accelerate an innings and has a decent technique. We all know it's mental thing with him. So it makes me wonder if the number 6 position was always going to between Head and Maddinson in that their batting is seen as similar and can provide a small option with the ball. Possibly they feel Patterson is more suspect to spin and more suited to 3 or 4 ? But whatever happens he needs to be getting international exposure this summer and batting 3 or 4 for ODI side.

WADE v NEVILL

Let's not pretend that Nevill wasn't under pressure. He just wasn't suited to the number 7 position and was he good enough to bat 6 ? He needs to find a new tempo to his innings when situations call for it. But calling Wade was definitely a brave or stupid call. He may not need to stand-up much in Adelaide but the India tour is coming so Hohns better be ****-sure that his keeping has improved. But Ia ctually think Sparks comment is spot on, where Wade iritates me is that he supposedly has this mongrel but when things are going against him/team his body language is as bad and obvious as anyone on the field. Not good for a keeper. The runs may save him but is also not 100% certain.

LYON v O'KEEFE

Both will be going to India soon so I wouldn't want to throw Lyon away to quickly.

SAYERS & BIRD

Two deserving picks for Australia, England, New Zealand and South Africa especially. Two work-horses that allows Starc/Hazlewood to strike and go with 6 batsman, keeper and 4 bowlers strategy and throw away the Stoinis,M.Marsh,Henriques,Maxwell talk. Suppose with India coming up , the question is whether anyone else can contribute better than them on that tour and you've probably got to say not. Behrendorff is a bounce bowler who probably could perform decently at home whilst Tremain seems to be improving. I think the Mennie/Boland picks should be packed away. Ideally Paris proves his fitness. But two spinners and 2 seamers probably what they will go with in India.

* Also getting back to the ODI side. Definitely think this needs to be used as a development tool over the next 12 months even if the Champions Trophy is before that. Get your 4 specialists in but only 4. Then guys like Patterson, Head, Maddinson need to be playing here so guys like Finch/Bailey need to be watching their backs.

Ugh, Wade. That's how I know Australian cricket is in the toilet, when they have to go back to that ****wit. Brad Haddin without the ability to back it up.

Maddog has to be just the "Lol **** it he sort of plays well in limited overs I guess" pick

He hasn't set the world alight in any format, reward for a middling career I suppose. If I was KPat and this schmuck got selected over me I'd be a tad peeved.

We know how this song goes. Maddinson will probably come out and bang a run a ball ton on debut and then revert to his usual disappointments. Just when the selector's patience is just starting to wear out he'll bang another ton and buy himself another summer which he will promptly underperform in again.
Probably why Mark Waugh likes him.

A bit redundant but I've just got home - my side would have been Warner Renshaw Khawaja Smith Handscomb Maxwell Nevill Faulkner Starc Haze Bird.

4 seamers for here and Brisbane as I dont think our spinners will be a big factor. I think Lyon is cooked for the time being and SA have him worked. O'Keefe's injury removed any doubts about 4 seamers. Bird in as his batting has really come on and Faulkner because he's actually alright despite what you may hear about him. Plus he has a bit of **** about him.

Maxwell missed out in the shield match but his prior form was ok. Patterson just didn't do enough plus Maxwell is my spin option. Mad dog - nah. Rest of the batting was easy with 3 of the certainties plus 2 of the best performers in the shield round. Would have stayed with Nevill as Wade fumbled his opportunity.

Overall I'm ok with the side maybe bcos I'm relieved Doolan didn't flum his way into the side.

Harsh on Ferguson as I was hoping for a while he'd get selected but really no runs in 4 innings straight. same reason for Burns.

Probably to maintain the left-right partnerships when all the lefties keep getting out first ball.

I'm assuming the lack of chat about Maddinson as a Test pick is because he's injured? Because to my eyes, bloke has the ideal game to take on the Saffers.
Maintain that Nevill should be in trouble for his stump mic work alone, his vocab consists of "C'mon boys." and "Bowling, [NICKNAME]". Nowehere near enough niggle. Unaustralian. Drop the prick.
Am claiming both of these, by the way. I get so few right...

Am as mystified about the selection of Wade as everyone with eyes and a heart. What exactly did he do wrong besides not be Gilchrist?

I'd imagine dropping loads of catches

Decent squad, I'd imagine Maddinson will only play if they decide they'll bench Lyon (which they should, most over-rated bowler since Ashwin)
