That on-side drive to start and then those shots down the ground were brutal along with that flat pull for six off Dala's 144kph bumper.

They don't even have to play von Berg. Davids, Behardien and Adams can all bowl an over or two.

Still no Markram... but Vandiar now opening? They must either be hoping to develop his game more? Or I wonder about T20 contracts are forcing them to play certain players? Otherwise it makes no sense.

20 year-old Ngidi got KP. Good scalp !
Duanne Olivier does have pace and has produced the good statistically and stepped up for SA 'A'.
If I'm being slightly critical it is that whenever I've seen him in limited overs cricket I'm not overly impressed with his action unlike young Ngidi/Dupavillon. It is very snatchy action - not sure how else to describe it but he can't do more than what he is doing especially with the red ball.

Òlivier seems to become a back of the length bowler in LO format... the few times I have seen him bowl in FC he definitely pitches the ball up more. Agree with you about his action though. I like Ngidi/Dupavillion as well... hopefully they come good.

Good move. Wonder what that means for von Berg.
Be great though if it gets Markram in from an SA pov.
EDIT: Watching Grant Mokoena trying and hit the leather off the ball and struggling is getting boring now.

He just lacks in radar. Which I'm surprised with considering he he is capable of holding it tight at times in 4-day cricket. I just wonder if he moves the red ball quite a bit which I've heard Donald say he does and is working on the away swinger/seamer ? The pace factor is nice though because he can hit high 140s but I think because of his action he could release a 130kph often. In 1-day cricket he doesn't look as special as I thought he would be after his 4-day success but it doesn't surprise me because when I first saw him I thought the same.
That being said he cemented himself ahead of Viljoen & Paterson in the winter the 4-day SA 'A' tests.
Ngidi certainly has cutters, bouncers and his stock ball of it jagging into the right-hander. Really pleased he grabbed wickets with the red-ball this season because we needed him to and could be the answer to giving Rabada the odd rest initially but going down the line we will need strike bowlers when Steyn, Philander, Morkel and Abbott are no more.
Dupavillon really having some **** luck of it with injuries from back end of last season he had surgery in the winter. Was starting his 2nd 3-day game beck for KZN and injured his foot again and will be out for weeks. Has the smoothest action of the three and could drive a length probably better but also likes to throw in yorkers like Rabada. This season is close to write-off to try get in the SA 'A' team for England. Really disappointing.
I love how the Dolphins website describes Phehlukwayo's injury as : CROTCH

You drop Von Berg for Piedt, which means you can bring in Markram for Mokoena possibly.
It is pathetic that you have to worry about skin colour, along with ability and team balance when picking a professional franchise side in South Africa.

It certainly is. Can't be an easy task for a coach. So many factors to deal with.
It's also frustrating with quite a few of the guys I want to watch not playing too ; ie Markram, de Bruyn, Phelukwayo, Dupavillon etc

If they going to continue with the quota system, they have to increase the number of franchises... the argument of insuring quality with fewer franchises does not make sense if good players are not playing and they are already reducing skill level for non-competitive reasons. And the CSA must help find the new franchises properly so that the richer franchises don't just create a bench strength.

It's going to be interesting who they would add.
If you look at the history of the Currie Cup : Transvaal, Natal, Rhodesia, WP, EP were the only teams in the top division from WW2 until the 80s because the 2nd division consisted of 'B' teams initially from Transvaal and Natal and then latter the other 3 added 'B' teams who played against NE Transvaal* , Orange Free State*, Border and Griqualand West. Only in the 80s when Rhodesia left did NE Transvaal come back into the top division , then OFS, then Border and then Griqualand West.
So if you go on history Border and Griqualand West (now Northern Cape) could get the extra two spots if they went that route. But there is the talk for North West and their facilities.
Then there is also the debate that all unions want to come in. Newly formed SWD may want a spot and KZN cricket has two teams and Inland has been winning competitions. Lots of complex matters.
