We'd kill for people the likes of Khawaja or Warner to come through our cricketing scene in NZ; NZ is all about application of limited talent, Khawaja's pure talent level would be up with some of the best we've had.
You've seen Khawaja bat against non-Mark Craig spin right?

You guys don't lack for talent, you have amazing talent in the side, but it's a lack of application. That to me is a coach/captain issue.
Amazing bowling talent, but Smith and Warner aside the batting is either unproven or shown to not be up to test standard.

You've got Burns, Khawaja, S Marsh, M Marsh, Voges, Ferguson, Nevill in the top seven at different times batting around the two world class players. Ferguson is an unknown after one test, Darsh is inconsistent and often injured when in form, his brother isn't up to it, Burns doesn't look like he is either, and Voges has surely passed the point of no return. Khawaja is also an unknown quantity against quality bowling, though tbf he batted well here second dig.

Khawaja, Shaun Marsh and Fergsuon all have much more talent than they're showing out there. Voges until the start of this year had been amazing for Australia.

The only difference is 1. Better bowling attacks and 2. Pitches that have done a little bit either in the air or off the wicket - you can't say either Warner or Smith are having great series either.

It's application, not talent. Australia never has a talentless batting line up.

Hard to be too harsh on Khawaja when he's made runs both tests while every other **** falls around him.

**** up Clarke.
Nah, he's right. So is Chappell, when it comes to talking about having younger blokes in the side and about taking ownership of the side. Not an easy thing for a young captain to do, but he may as well have a crack at it.

Pointing on BT was really negative on the Ferguson selection. Over 100 FC games and an average of 40 isn't good enough. (Approx)

While maybe somebody younger should have been given the chance I don't see much wrong with Ferguson being picked. In my XI I've given him Voges' spot for the rest of the season.

Probably fair comment. I'd rather them pick a younger bloke too, but he's had a couple of decent seasons and the cupboard ain't exactly overflowing.

Not often you see a team go into a test with 3 pace bowlers averaging under 23, but that's (likely) what South Africa will be doing in Adelaide.

Doesn't it also show that the selectors are hoping for another Voges/Rogers/Hussey rather than hoping someone younger can kick on?

Yeah probably. They seem to be in England 1990s mode where you go back to/ pick older blokes while the next generation gets some seasoning. Sounds reasonable in principle, until you begin to realise the next generation aren't averaging 50 plus at Shield level and you've basically had a patchwork quilt of a batting line up for half a decade.

They're better off bringing younger batsmen in, even if they're not ready. And they're better off doing it now.

I dont disagree with that idea, just cant stand listening to him yabber on like he was a good leader, especially sitting next to Chappell. Clarke was the most divisive leader we've had, and led a team where people didnt know where they sat. MClarke is all about MClarke.

And first thing he says is "Smith has to be the man", then he's crapping on about how Smith has his phone number and all that. Clarke is the last bloke the team'd want around right now.

Whatever it takes!!!
Memos going out as we speak to the other test curators for highways for the 4 remaining tests of the summer.
Surely the D/Ns at Adelaide and Brisbane cannot be a flat track with all those pink ball issues ?

Another example of how Australian Cricket Community keeps selling the narrative that "we are not this bad and we are unlucky with injuries and we will do better, just you wait and watch" here.. Amazed that even Ponting is a part of it now.

Hell, the tail enders were running to put themselves on strike. Smith should have shown more tactical nous, but he shouldn't take all the blame.

Do you mean to say the bowlers should have said no when the captain keeps calling them through for easy singles?

Congrats to SA

They outplayed us in virtually every department and to think that they did it without ABDV, Morkel and largely Steyn is all the more impressive.

As for Oz, we can bitch about scheduling, management & coaching but that is not going to change this summer and there are no easy fixes anyway

However, I'd suggest that a good place to start would be to start paying the FC scene the respect it deserves and force all bar Warner, Khawaja, Smith, Starc & Haze to play the next round.

Furthermore, Smith really should set the example by playing himself.

I think if they bring younger batsmen in, they have to do it with the promise of at least 10 or 15 tests. They cant bring the younger guys in and then drop them after they fail once or twice.

They need to be very deliberate now in picking young guys who they believe will be there for 8-10 years at least, and NOT dropping them at the first opportunity.
