**Official** England in Bangladesh 2016

I know, it's just one of those times I just don't understand modern Test cricket. Playing sweeps to perfectly straight balls, cook seemed to want to cut the ball, but then saw he had to play defensively and he just steered it to slip. Honestly without sounding too old-fashioned what is wrong with playing yourself in and waiting for the bad ball.

*grumbling old man mode*

Well consistent start at least.
Taylor, a product of this dressing room, was talking of showing intent during this interval. He literally said 'I hope they don't just wait for the bad ball'. 8-)

Very interesting test match but with all due respect to the Bangladesh fans, if it comes to a tight finish, my money is on England...

Thankfully I haven't read any moaning about the pitch on the little bit of CW that I've seen. It's about time we learnt how to play this stuff.
No point moaning about the pitch as we know what we are getting before we get there. Only time you really moan is when it is so slow and has no bounce that it becomes very boring as it is so hard to score any runs at all. This pitch is fine, good bowling and batting has been rewarded and mistakes punished.

Bangladesh might rue playing Kamrul instead of a batsman.

Also random question, but has there even been a Test side where the 7th player in alphabetical order starts with a D? If someone could review every single Test match played and confirm that would be great.

This has probably been asked before, but is this the first time an opening pair has consisted of a debutant and a chap breaking his country's test appearance record?
Won't have happened very often, but off the top of my head maybe Gooch and Morris against WI in 1991?

Well it is going to be a result. I was picking a dull 520 plays 370 at 2.5 runs per over followed by a Cookesque 2nd innings declaration and the game being called off on the 5th day.

Anyway, NZ v Aus rugby about to start. We should win comfortably, but one never knows against the convicts. I have a feeling that either Stokes or Shakib will do some magnificent/terrible to influence the rest of the cricket test one way or the other.

This is a match where Tamim Iqbal has played by far the most sensible innings, another sign of the impending apocalypse which this year is surely bringing.

Going back to the 'showing intent' debate, surely it's not even about that. More about biding your time and playing yourself in before becoming more opening up a bit. Given that Misbah has given our lot a few master classes, you'd rather hope one or two of them might have taken note.
