Trent Bridge. Laxman and Yuvraj have just fallen, match is at a crucial point as India have a small lead and Dravid is unbeaten on about 3 million by this point at the other end. Let's swing wildly at this outswinger from Broad! What's the worst that can happen?

Oh right. Broad takes a hat-trick and completely swings the momentum of the match, and series, England's way. Good one skip.

if i had to take one i'd pick dhoni because i think he brings a more unique skill set, whereas there are other options in the history of ODI cricket than can give you similar outputs to gilly
What was unique about Dhoni as an ODI bat? In terms of skillset he is very similar to Mike Hussey.

This may be the dumbest debate of all time, maybe only surpassed by Warne vs Viv: who's the better T20 slipper?

Imo saying he benefited from it. Without being able to come in with the team in such a strong position with bowlers tired most of the times he would probably average less and have a lower strike rate.

I would pick Sanga and AB over him.
kumar 'averages the same as matt prior when keeping' sangakkara

Dhoni actually got 2 50s at Edgbaston :p
He got a couple of 50s in the post-Lord's 2014 horror show also. That was one admirable aspect about him, his technique was horribly unsuited to handling that attack in those conditions but he found a way to grind a few runs out.

There was a thread sometime back discussing Gilchrist's Test batting and I showed how he came into bat when the team was in a strong position more often than not. Hence, a downhill skier on average.
"A downhill skier on average"? What does that even mean? He was a gun, deadset. The strength of the guys batting ahead of him has no bearing on how good he was, at all.

I'll just leave this here:

2nd Test: Australia v Pakistan at Hobart, Nov 18-22, 1999 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo

You can't just speculate what Gilchrist might've done or not done in a weaker team. For all you know, he might have averaged far more than he did, at a lower strike rate.

You do realise that AB has only kept in 24/106 tests? And that Sanga only kept in 48/134 tests?

I swear you've had this argument with viriya atleast a dozen times before.

The Dhoni movie is a piece of crap. Young Yuvraj Singh was amazing. On point casting. The lead actor nailing a few of Dhoni's quirks while batting, was fun too.
Otherwise it's such a missed opportunity... It's just a series of matches in his career and explores nothing about what makes Dhoni tick as a leader or his calmness under pressure. Waste of time.

But the best bit easily was this :

Coach : " What do you do when you get a good outswinger?"
Dhoni: "Leave it"

Bahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, yeah right.
Dhoni or Richie McCaw - whose movie was better/worse?

Anyone picking de Villiers or Sangakkara ahead of Gilchrist as a wicketkeeper is a dead set idiot.

This still makes me so mad. Dravid was looking pretty much impenetrable. All he needed was his batting partners to not be utterly incompetent and he'd have probably doubled up and taken India to a dominant position.
