That was bizarre. While Boult did score a fifty on a low pudding in Bangladesh, that has very little relevance on turning Indian pitches and his defense is generally pretty terrible. Wagner is simply better than that with the bat.

I'm not jumping on the Ashwon is the greatest since Sobers train either, but what world doesn't see a Test cricketer who after 37 tests averages mid 30s with bat and mid 20s with ball as being a genuine allrounder?
Only Imran & Miller have better numbers as bowling all-rounders.

I heard Hesson say Watling won't bat higher than No. 7 on this tour even though on ability he deserves to, so it may be a similar little Hesson consideration for fitness. Enduro Wagner being given just the ten minutes before NZ's required to bowl.

Not quite true, Imran batted mostly at 7, and actually batted more times at 8 than he did at 6. His promotion to 6 happened quite late in his career, saying nothing about that fact India bat a lot deeper than Pakistan did in Imran's time.
You are right about Miller though.
Either way, don't think I'm trying to compare Ashwin with Imran or Miller as all-rounders, I'm not, but pretending he's not a genuine all-rounder when he's scored 4 hundreds in 37 tests, and averages mid 30s is some pretty bad denial.

If the pitch has something for the bowlers, this is New Zealand's chance imo. If they're going to get a result in this series it's going to either be on a real Nagpur-esque minefield or something which brings Boult into the game.
