Really disappointing from the NZ spinners, plenty there if you can hit the right areas, but only landing 1 in 6 and getting the pace wrong. Learned nothing from Jadeja & Ashwin sadly.
They're not trying to bowl long hops. They're just not as good as Ashwin and Jadeja. Ashwin and Jadeja FC averages 26 + 23. NZ trio 42 + 42 + 47. NZ's best spin option was to work a deal with Jeets to join the tour for 2nd and 3rd tests, although a shame that Astle hasn't had a chance at this level.

NZ spinners here is a little like the Sri Lankan seamers in NZ over the last few summers. Tried hard, had a couple of 2-3 wicket spells, but not as good as Tim / Trent so relied on their batting to save them / win them games (which Sanga almost did). Same for NZ bowlers on the subcontinent, won't out-bowl the opposition so need big runs to give the bowlers a chance. Our wins have come from Taylor / KW / BMac 100s.

They've still been disappointing the NZ spinners, with or without all that blah.

Excellent batting from India. They're making it look like such a good pitch to bat on.

When Sehwag was smashing Krezja in that test match, Vijay hit him over long on just to show Sehwag he could do it too.

Edit: No I am wrong.

Edit2: Found it! It was actually a moment against SL.

25.4 Muralitharan to Sehwag, SIX, Sehwag goes down town in style. He waltzed down the track, reached the pitch of the flighted delivery and lifted it over long-off
27.4 Muralitharan to Vijay, SIX, reaches his fifty in style. He charges down the track and lofts the flighted delivery over long-on. Sehwag gets across and envelops him with a big hug. The crowd roar.

Ravi Shastri: Plenty of good batting to come - Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, (thinks for a bit) Ajinkya Rahane...

**** off!

Craig to Vijay, no run, nudged into the leg side. And hello, that was Craig's carrom ball, from around the stumps

Taylor's leading New Zealand with Williamson off the field
I am sure the ball wasn't that terrible.

Whoever said Murali Vijay is the mirror image of Ravi Jadeja was spot on.

He actually looks a handy part timer now too.
Haha yep. Run up, action and trajectory very similar but nothing else. Jadeja varies lots of things, is very accurate and has the advantage of being left handed.

Caught the game finally live and caught the highlights of the previous two days. Observations so far:

And lol @ OS and Daemon going on about Ashwin not bowling well when the pitch was true. Since when is it a crime that a bowler who has been playing quite a bit of T20 in recent weeks takes a bit of time to get into the groove of a test match... Classic Sehwag - runs - flat wicket style posting there. It is a true pitch even now and the spinners have bowled brilliantly to get us where we are.
Hey guys I wonder where Ashwin comes from? Is it Tamil Nadu?

But on a more serious note, you're right and I did acknowledge that later iirc. He was bowling all over the place before he finally settled down and it was probably just a bit of a coincidence that the rough came into play towards the end of the day when he really got into his groove.

But at the same time I was still disappointed that he was manipulated so easily by the lefty righty combo and KW especially. They definitely contributed to him bowling a bit poorly first up along with everything else mentioned.
