Oops. Forgot HK's Nadeem - true veteran of Associate cricket and a quality spinner. Surprised a County hasn't grabbed him . Perhaps it's a Visa thing. Game 2 a wash out in Bready.

Yes. The HK T 20 Blitz showed the energy HK is famous for. Well done HKCA. Pity about the weather and the crap ground and drainage . That's what you get with a tightass mindless HK Chinese Government who don't support sport save for horse and dragon boat racing. Even the Mainland China Government puts HK to shame in terms of investment in sports facilities.

HK v the Scots this evening. ODI. Any live ********* ?

8-)

FTR, as someone living here for many years, the HK Government is lovely. The facilities here are fantastic, well maintained, and done so at little to no cost of the people who utilize them. We can book top quality cricket nets with access to free lockers, showers, water, etc for only $2.5 USD an hour. They're opening up a few new cricket grounds that should be available to use from next season (if not halfway through the current one), and they have been very generous with their support for all sports in HK, not just cricket. Space is tight, demand is high, and they make sure that any investment made is done so optimally.

No one involved with HK Cricket has a bad word to say about the Government and their support for the sport. We actually really appreciate all they do for a sport played by a tiny fraction of the population of the country. The HKCA is hard at work promoting the game in local communities, and hopefully one day Cricket will be fully embraced by the locals, which will open the doors for more support and development.

And on that note, the HKCA Dragons - a chinese-only team formed by the HKCA to compete in one of the local leagues last year - has just won their first match in the opening game of the season, beating the Sri Lankan Cricket Association:

Pretty huge moment for the sport in this country :)

good luck to HK today against Scotland, think Scotland should get over the line in the 50 over format but I'm sure it'l be a close match

stupid question here ***** but how far are you from umpiring a HK game in HK? you seem to have done some fairly notable games from memory

I'm quite low in the pecking order. I haven't umpired an official HK domestic game yet. Just friendlies, and part of a women's T20 as my assessment.

This is the season where I'm supposed to be umpiring. The last I spoke to them, they said they'll get me some of the lower level league games first (basically the level of cricket I play at now), before letting me umpire in the higher level games.

To umpire International games, I need to be hand picked by the HKCA to get approved with the ICC, and as it stand HK only ever has 2 ICC approved umpires at any time.

So I guess I'm atleast a few years away from umpiring at the T20 Blitz/HK Sixes level, and much further away from International level. I'm still waiting to start umpiring. Then I need to do a good job consistently, impress the right people...and then wait I guess.

sounds like the biggest obstacle's the "two umpires only at a time thing", which is a real shame

good luck with it though hopefully you'll get to umpire internationals one day - you'll get a cricinfo page and everything

In another result Saudi Arabia smash Namibia at home by 140 runs in a motza upset.
What division are Saudi Arabia?

Yeah this was one of the biggest upsets ever IMO, especially the margin of victory. I raised an eyebrow after the first innings but assumed a flat pitch. Wow.

Saudi Arabia aren't even part of the WCL at the moment so they're ranked somewhere below 31st in the world. Top ranked team in Asia outside the WCL which is sort of de facto 32nd.

Have Saudi Arabia suddenly had an influx of quality cricketet playing expats? Or is this a home-grown squad?

None of their players seem to have birth records on any of the major cricket sites, but about half of the eleven that beat Namibia had previously played for their Under 19s side, which means they've been at least partially developed locally.
