This is how I imagine Steyn marching to take the new ball
This is how I imagine Steyn marching to take the new ball
As much as I love Wags he's averaging under 30 at first change, which is world class for first change bowlers imo (like how many first changers has England rotated around Broad and Anderson? South Africa around Steyn and Philander?). If we're persevering with 4 seamers and changing the opening bowler, bring Henry in for Bracewell. This tour has exemplified everything we already knew. Southee and Boult, with emphasis on the former are aren't keeping the standards up. Interestingly Doully has had a bit of a go at lowest hanging fruit - Southee's batting while even Cleaver is suggesting a "kick up the arse" theory by moving Tim to first change. How do we feel about Wag's opening the bowling?
I'll be interesting to see how Kane/Hesson react to the result - whether they are bold enough to look for solutions or keep the status quo. Surly they will drop Guptill, even for his own sake. The Santer/Bracewell situation seems to be morphing close to the mid 2000's " we don't need middle order batsman/front line change bowlers if we have all rounders who can kinda of bat and kinda of bowl" theory. Problem is I can't see a viable replacement for Santer, and while Bracewell remains "unlucky" and bowls well in patches doz states don't lie.
Can't see much changing for the Indian tour - but Nutall, Bruce, Wheeler, Young, Popli are in the picture going forward
This is your greatest ppst eva Hauritz. You don't understand the internet because it is not the done thing to be third man into a fight. Yet you jumped in during the fight with ***** and you are jumping in now. Leave it to the contestants of the fight to duke it out in the future. Find your own scraps to have if you are desperate to have stoush with someone. If you want lessons on how to end up in a scrap then I will be charging $39.95 for a webinar next Tuesday you can pay by PayPal if you prefer.
I know he hadn't been in form but Francois is a better player than Duminy by so far it isn't funny. Like, Shackleton's life boat voyage across the South Atlsntic far.Technically AB is captain and if you look at the lineup it is/was (until this match) Faf and Duminy`s placers under threat. The unfortunate reality is there is other factors to consider when replacing Faf/Duminy and neither one is obviously playing much better than the other to really argue about it... Parnell would be for the extra bowling option and he has bowled and batted well domestically hence the recall.
Rahane is over rated ffs.You don't understand batting because you seem to think Guptill can cut it at the Test level, think Warner is a hack and Rahane is overrated.
Yeah if aouthee is dropped, henry should be keeping his place. We've got a few guys who could conceibably so a decemt job with da new nut. We've only hot one fuy who can be a factor at 1st change. Leave wagz ehere he is.As much as I love Wags he's averaging under 30 at first change, which is world class for first change bowlers imo (like how many first changers has England rotated around Broad and Anderson? I don't disagree with you, I would pick Faf before Duminy.. but it is very difficult to argue one over the other based on recent form, particularly when you consider the other factors involved. To be honest many in SA want them both dropped and de Bryun brought into the squad.I know he hadn't been in form but Francois is a better player than Duminy by so far it isn't funny. Depends on which Perth we get though, anything like last year's pitch and you probably need to pick 5 bowlers.Where are they playing? They've got a test in Perth, Hobart and Adelaide iirc. I wouldn't drop a batsman for Perth and would leave the spinner out to play a fast bowling all rounder.
if Hobart plays as it has on occasions in some recent Shield seasons where it's been a bowler's deck, I'd do the same. If it's a more traditional Bellereive deck id bring the spinner in for the fast bowling all rounder and just play four bowlers. Risky, but if you're worried about your batting then I don't think five bowlers is worth it. Much depends on Steyn and Vern's fitness. If they're 100% I'd risk it, if not then I'd drop Duminy to play the fifth bowler.
In Adelaide, it's d/n so I'd lean towards five bowlers there, though the night session changes everything and the ball last year went sideways after dinner. If the deck is the same this year you'd be tempted to play your three best quicks and a spinner (to cover the first two sessions mostly, because tbh spinners only exist to pass time until real bowlers get their energy back) and keep six batsmen to try to minimize damage at night. Last year the test was over in three days and even NZ ran Australia close, so God only knows what SA's attack will do to us. Assuming it's like last year I'd just play four bowlers. If it's flatter then play the all rounder and piss off Duminy.
Just my thoughts anyway.
Ok, I think that SA will probably just go with the 4 bowlers for most of the games then, pretty much what we have been doing... but possible replace Piedt with Morkel or possible Parnell. I just thought with the relatively flat surfaces seen in Aus recently it might be best to go in with a fifth bowler.Where are they playing? They've got a test in Perth, Hobart and Adelaide iirc. I wouldn't drop a batsman for Perth and would leave the spinner out to play a fast bowling all rounder.

Love how you find new ways to avoid confrontations when you're wrong. It's always some excuse with you when you're called out like "you don't know anything about batting", "you're posting too aggressively for me", "your posts are too nuanced" and the favourite "you're too young".You don't understand the internet because it is not the done thing to be third man into a fight. Totally agree, Wag's has found his role so it makes little sense to change it. Guess the crux issue of the lineup is the one spinner (assuming non-Asian conditions - obvs changes for the Indian tour) - do you pick Santner because he's the better bat - and marginally a 'safer option' - i.e. less likely to get carted or do you pick Sodhi/Craig and swap the fourth seamer for Anderson/Neesham. Really difficult when a 'development' project like Santner dictates the whole balance of the team (and your 'specialist' options are so iffy. Hopefully Jimmy's bowling progresses still like the idea of him as the all-rounder - more solid test level bat than Anderson/Santner in my mind.As much as I love Wags he's averaging under 30 at first change, which is world class for first change bowlers imo (like how many first changers has England rotated around Broad and Anderson? haha wtf is this?Well you are an ungrateful so and so. I remember when you were nervous before a job interview you had for some position in Hamilton, Out of the kindness of my heart, dick that I am, I took 30 minutes of my time to write you a good natured post with advice about trick questions to expect on the day of the interview. Sure enough on the day of your interview they asked you those trick questions and my advice played a very very small role in you getting the position. The majority was obviously your own talent.
Did you say thank you Hurricane for taking the time to be nice to me and offering advice? No you didn't. And now I am a dick.
I reckon that you and half the ravens have twirled yourself into some twisted knot against me for who knows why. One year on this web site I was very popular then suddenly I wasn't amongst the ravens
and I personally have never changed my personality.
Anyway - I don't like you anymore either after calling me names in this thread and I hope you take another break from this web site and this time for much longer than a few months.
And you don't understand batting by the way. By memory your top score in senior cricket is 12 or something I seem to recall.
