108 matches SA have played since Steyn debuted. Cook's freakish injury record and Steyn's slightly worse than normal for a bowler's is a massive reason for their disparity.

Steyn has only had trouble with injuries in the last two years or so when SA have barely played that many tests anyway. Before that, he had 7 years straight where he wasn't injured at all. Before these last couple of years, everyone was saying how freakish fit he's been.

Yeah he played his debut series vs England in 04 and after that he was out of the side. Wasn't a regular in the team up until 06/07.
