nah. think bowling all rounder, he was the right choice for this match
He's the right pick in theory - stump-to-stump/back of a length bowler who lengthens the batting. But for the most part it's remained more an idea than reality.

might make himself a quality #8 though, which gives him a shot at being a decent bowling allrounder in a "cog in the machine" kind of way.
Well he'd be hoping Santner becomes some sort of all round God because we'd need that if NZ are we're to carry a guy averaging 40 plus with the ball and 20 something with the bat.

Southee's second spell is huge, needs to maintain the pressure of Boult else SA could build a good platform.

Before the match I called for him to be picked but said it was last chance saloon. I stand by that. I felt he bowled without luck vs Australia and was an asset in that series.

2nd ball of the over is the kind I've seen Bracewell bowl a lot of. Makes him look unlucky but he isn't - is actually just bowling too short with a newish ball,

i don't think anderson is the bowler to do the job they want bracewell to do. anderson has a golden arm some days but he's also very leaky.
Yeah, I don't hate Bracewell as much as Dan, and I wouldn't be that surprised if he made us all look stupid and had a decent game here.. but when you start talking about going the Franklin route and focusing more on batting I think it makes his selection in this match really, really niche. The justification is that he's a better allrounder than the other bowlers and a better bowler than the other allrounders, even though there are better allrounders and better bowlers than him, and when you get into that realm it's almost Ellis-esque. It's not exactly a defined role and I think he has a very tenuous grasp on it. I would've gone with Anderson and made Santner into the team's Moeen.

Lel, whoever was chasing that boundary was about to do a McCullum-esque dive for it then seemed to remember the crazy ****er isn't in charge of NZ anymore.

On Bracewell, he's there because Henry hasn't proven himself to be someone who can maintain pressure and bowl effectively-ish with an older ball. Mind you, not certain Doug particularly has either. I'd prefer to see Henry there, because the only way he'll become something like that is by playing.

Mind you, he's looked okay today Doug.

It's very frustrating that Bracewell gets the luxury of green pitch specialist.

I suppose it COULD technically make sense, in the same way as if you only play Jadeja/Hafeez in certain conditions.

Still, it's more likely that he's just not that good.

That is the right length. Good on Bracewell for not getting worried about being drive, good mentality.
