*Official* Australia in Sri Lanka 2016

Yeah, I guess ultimately Hussey was the difference (I think Smith/Clarke is a bit of a wash), but I still think this is a notable loss. The team with the Ponting-Clarke-Hussey got rekt in India twice but they still won in Sri Lanka. This team has taken sucking in Asia to a new low IMO, and it's this series that's proven it.
Well tbf our batting still held up OK-ish in 2008 and 2010 was a lot tighter than the scoreline indicated. So saying we got rekt in India twice I'm not convinced is all that accurate.

Plus wasn't Clarke having some major back issues in 2010 anyway? And let's not forget that I wanted Hussey dropped before that Ashes series.

I didn't think the batting lineup was particularly more suited to play in Asia five years ago than this one though, and Australia still beat Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka five years ago.

Australia have struggled in Asia for quite a bit longer than five years, but if this tour is anything to go by then the struggles have actually been getting worse, losing to a team they beat last time around even though that team has itself has declined in that time. It's not just 'same old, same old'; it really is a new low.
True. And I was quite surprised Sri Lanka did not win that series given the team they had. I would have backed that team to win over this team after their **** show over the last 2 years.
We all know they suck more now than they did in 2004 though (it's obvious as you might say); what I think is notable is that they suck more now than they did in 2011 as well, and by 2011 everyone had already come to the conclusion that they sucked. This is genuinely a new low since the heights of that 2004 side.
Which is why it's so embarrassing. You're all agreeing with me. It's horrendous.

This doesn't really support your point. Batting lineup wasn't gun, they scored runs in Sri Lanka and won anyway.

Don't waste your time. You should know better.

Edit: @ Cribb arguing with Jono.

So Clarke and Hussey were finished in 2010 but miraculously not somehow in 2011?

Okay Morgs. :p
I never said Clarke was finished, just that he was out of form due to a back flare up in 2010 :p

Fair call on Hussey though, but it's hard to argue against him being out of form around 2009/2010.

What is everyone arguing about? This is so confusing and stop ignoring me, please reply to my posts. Thanks
Essentially Burgey is arguing that we're at a new low in the subcontinent. Jono thinks that Australia have long been **** in the subcontient. EWS brought up that we won here in 2011 with a comparable batting lineup against a stronger Sri Lankan lineup. I'm essentially arguing that the 2011 lineup was a fair bit stronger than the 2016 one.

Thanks morgs, knew I could count on you, also agree 2011 batting was stronger than the current one.at least in subcontinental conditions. Current bats are too raw

I think there is a distinction to be made between the Australia's record in Asia pre and post 2012. Yes Australia did lose in India in 08 and 10 but they were more like the way England lost in UAE in 12 and 15. Closely fought tight series even if the results don't reflect that. Laxman had to play out of his skin in a game in 10 to win it.

Australia's losses in India 13, UAE 14 and now Sri Lanka 16 are a different conversation.

Those are all accurate statements

Asia and Australia are such different conditions. Australia lose in Asia quite often, and Asian sides lose in Australia even more. I don't think an Asian side has won in Australia since I've been alive. India got a draw in 2003 when McGrath and Warne were unavailable but that's about it.

Would love Warner to just blast and try and pull off a 70 ball century to give us a chance at winning but I know he's been trying that with no luck all series and if he ****s up again and we lose it'l look pretty bad. His head is nowhere near the chopping block but I doubt he'l go for it

Against their usual method, I can see the Australians playing for draw almost from the get go if they lose a couple of wickets (especially Warner & Smith), with such a ****ty batting line-up
