*Official* Australia in Sri Lanka 2016

how far is Chandimal off the big four-Root,Kane,Kohli,TPC ?

I think him and especially Rahane are not that far behind.
With all due respect, a loooooooooooooooooooooooong way
I think Chandimal needs a great year or two to be considered close to the same tier. It's plausible, he's only 26 and definitely has the talent. Temperament has been his issue and he seems to be maturing these days.

I rated him up there with Kohli in terms of talent when they were both coming through as kids. There are probably a few "who will be the great batsman of the new generation?" polls hidden in the archives of CW in which I voted for him. He hasn't really come on like I expected -- he's always still had that random loss of concentration in him, and isn't a great strike rotator at times -- but I think he's still got it him in if he decides he wants to focus on his batting and move up to four again.

What do people think of Kusal Perera's dismissal? Just watched the highlights and seemed harsh to give that out without snicko..

Whatever it takes!!!
imo this isn't his natural game though it's an overcompensation

when he is playing his natural game he's one of the sweetest timers in world cricket - here he is basically slogging with no thought at all

Pretty much what Sehwag did in tracks that were livelier than he liked too..

I'd be pretty surprised if Sri Lanka lose from here. A lot of sides would fancy their chances of getting a draw....don't think Australia are one of them though IMO.
Yeah I think your right there and since I've loaded up on the draw at I'm a bit nervous about it.

I'm banking on SL batting on a bit too long since they don't really need to push for the result and will want to bat until they feel safe..........in which case my bet will feel "a little" more secure. If they declare overnight, Aus will either go down in a steaming hump or win it.........reckon Lanka will want another 50 odd in half a session to put the game out of reach, and then if the Aussies show some ticker this could meander to a draw.

Honestly don't think Sri Lanka should declare before an hour an a half play is over. Australia will try to chase it regardless

SL don't have enough runs to bowl all day and they are eight down. Doubt they will have much of a chance to declare or not.

Starc will probably get the last two wickets within 15 minutes and hence be a leading cause of Australia losing.

If, as seems likely, Australia loses the series 3-0, I think it will go down as the most embarrassing series loss in my time watching cricket. Even worse than the Ashes in 2005 and 2010-11.

In fact, even if they lose the series 2-0 or 2-1 it will still be the most embarrassing series loss for an Australian team I can recall.

It's true. No way should that Australian side have lost to that England side. Was embarrassing.

This is worse, but for different reasons. Once you lose a series to SL, no matter where, there's only Bangladesh and Zimbabwe left of the laughable test nations to lose to. It's a slippery slope.

Wow so modest

Its a pity we didn't go to Bangladesh actually, Australian cricket might have been dug up from its grave, mutilated even further and then placed upside down back 6ft under.

Kasprowicz, Lee and 2005 Gillespie would not have got in that England side.

Why? its just the usual Australia **** themselves against anyone who tosses a ball at them 50km/h with a bit of rotation. No different to any other Asian tour in the last 5 years.

Fair enough being crap against 150km/h bullets at your head from Mitch. But this is just comical.

Are you kidding? Martyn was in fine form heading into the 2005 Ashes series and was sawn off horribly in the first couple of tests. At that point Pietersen hadn't debuted ffs, he was completely unknown. Heading into that series you'd have picked:

Hayden
Langer
Ponting
Martyn
Clarke
Flintoff
Gilchrist
Warne
S Jones/ Lee (reasonably close on reputation but I never liked Lee much so wouldn't have plumbed for him at that time anyway)
Harmison
McGrath
