I can't see any reason not to drop him.

Give Bell-Drummond or Duckett a go. Hameed is tempting but lets give him some Lions games.
They won't want to change 3 of their top 5 in one go, and Hales is probably the project they're most invested in.

Well I would much rather keep Ballance.

Once he got picked then Hales then he needed to be given a decent run in the side but he has had that now, I don't really know why he should be given longer than anyone else.

I've no idea why anyone would have any faith in Ballance. He was toiling in the test side, was deservedly dropped. He then proceeded to toil for the last 18 months before making one big score and getting straight back in to the test side.

He's still getting out in the same ways as before, he hasn't learned anything.

Hameed looks like he will be class. Soft hands and plays late. Good temperament for test cricket.

But only a year out of school and I think he'll (and England) gradually want to expand his game before he reaches test cricket. He'd probably do all right but I think you want him to just get a bit more experience and expand his game a little - which he's already doing tbh.

Good chance he goes on a lions trip this winter
Perhaps they're also looking ahead a bit and considering who they'd want to throw into the bull ring in Australia next winter.
But perhaps I'm being over-protective about Hameed.

Yeah I doubt we will see him or Joe Clarke play before that series. Though the way players keep failing to take their chances in the side they may have no option but to pick them.

Select Hameed for the Ashes I say. Flat wickets ripe for the taking and if he makes runs he'll be touted as the next Sachin.

If not, its just his test career that will die in flames.

Strike rate of 35, this is not 1970-80's.. you can not win by just blocking or leaving 70% of the balls. Even in tests you need to have aggressive opener who can upset the lengths of a bowler..

The dude has only just gotten out of school, you're completely naive to think that he won't start scoring more quickly in the future as he gets more feathers in his cap.

That is one of the better ways an opener can win games.

Hameed with a 100* with a strike rate of 80 today to set up a declaration. It is almost like he is a teenager still learning the game whilst opening the batting in one of the most difficult places for an opener in first class cricket.

Uh, you realise you're allowed to score more than one run off a ball?

Disappointing there is no Billings again. Up and down season but has been excellent for the lions for a while now and did well in IPL. Really think he's a better lo player than Bairstow - just needs a run of games.

NOt quite sure why they've gone down the 3 spinner route. If they want to see what Dawson could do, surely Moeen could benefit from keeping on working on his longer format bowling and stay with Worcestershire in 4 day cricket- in preparation for this winter. But no now he's back having to bowl in a different style once again.

Nice to have Wood back. Hopefully will offer some real penetration into the attack.

Still it's nice to have a load of batting options to consider. Buttler and Root aside everybody else needs to keep looking over their shoulder.
