Don't pick a seamer. Just go all spin + Angelo if you need 4 overs with the new ball.
I thought this was no-brainer. If it's going to be more of a turner than the last test was playing a quick would be pointless. But do you even need 4 spinners? Might be better off going with an extra batsman.

But most pitches in Sri Lanka do offer something for the seamers too especially with the new ball. Where's Dhamika Prasad when you need him

Yeah they definitely need seamers. SL regularly produce pitches which offer more conventional help for the quicks than places like UAE and India.

Are you talking in general or for this specific Test. Because all reports are that it's going to be a dry turner as far as I'm aware.

I wouldn't take these reports that seriously. There is a certain character to these pitches. Most people put all pitches in Asia under the blanket term of "typical SC pitches with nothing for seamers" but that's what lazy analysts do. Sri Lankan pitches, have always had movement in the first hour with decent bounce as well, just like some pitches in India and Pakistan in the past.
I don't expect that to change all of a sudden.

How many batting all-rounders who also bowl meds and aren't Thisara Perera are there in SL?

I suspect they'd pick Shanaka if they wanted to go that way, but even if they picked Siriwardana I think that'd probably be fine on the Galle pitch, tbh.

Ultimately I think they'll pick a debutant seamer who'll bat eleven and not bowl that much though.

Oh yeah, Shanaka is an all-rounder. I forgot he was supposed to be able to bat. Easy mistake to make given he's effectively performed as a specialist sixth bowler.

Galle is usually the square turner though, and their other decent quicks are injured at the moment.
Yeah that's true, though my post was more in general and not wholly to do with this test.

How many pacers do SL have out injured now? Chameera, Dhammika, Eranga, and now Pradeep... Pretty brutal. Where's Welegedera?

Lakmal is injured too. Not that he's great but it doesn't help.

Yeah and it feels as though Eranga has barely played a game since that series in England two years ago.

And is Tharindu Kaushal out injured too? That is a ridiculous injury list.

Yeah, especially since de Silva's offies are a thing, getting a batsman (or perhaps even more ideally, another batting allrounder) in for Pradeep could be a goer.

Bring Back Dilshan.

Covers both bases

I'd go for Shanaka thinking about it. Will extract any swing there is and in theory should be a good lower order bat.

I'll throw in a wild card, and play Dilhara Fernando. Only Sri Lankan bowler - who is not injured - can bowl reverse swing. Still he can it at 135 clicks, and more accurate than used to be. And will make use of variable bounce if any. 5'5" fast bowlers are not test class.

Eranga is banned and injured and has heart problems. Kaushal is a victim of ridiculous chucking laws of ICC. (Taskin Ahmed would agree too). He has given away the doosra and bowls a slider now, but has lost confidence, and needs to improve accuracy.
