That Mendis innings has to rank very high not just among the ones played this year, but all time imo. No one else found batting remotely easy on that deck... Add the situation of the match when he came out to bat and the fact that the pace at which he scored gave SL enough time to win it and it's truly incredible.

Yeah, exactly.

Cricinfo commentator says it's hard to call between Mendis and Herath for MOTM. Herath was great, but IMO it's not even close.

Chandimal had a couple of lucky umpiring decisions go his way too and generally was a more streaky knock. Mendis was virtually flawless from start to end.

Once we lost the 8th wicket, the plan was to bat until rain or bad light stopped play, like on 3 of the first 4 days in this Test.

Didn't realise there'd be a lot of rain about. Not paid loads of attention to the test, relying on the weather is not the best play.

I'm perhaps just too used to looking at the Aussies with a bit of admiration when they play to win, rather than a not lose mentality we have in England.

It was a mammoth effort by Nevill and O'Keefe proper test cricket.

Agree one of the tests you'd love to watch as a neutral but wouldn't want to be invested in one team, so many twists and turns

Yes it wasn't long ago he was captain of of u19's..he will be a great for us in years to come..

I flicked on at the start of the partnership, 60 odd overs to score 111 runs isn't a mammoth ask.

To not even look for a single is pointless cricket. You're not gonna survive 60 overs so at least ask the question.

No, 60 odd overs for 111 isn't a huge ask if you've got 10 wickets and 11 fit batsmen. When you've 2 wickets and one of the batsmen can't run then it's no hope. As for taking singles, you can't do that if you can't run.
