Really though? Maybe if the players had such little skill in defensive batting that it as higher risk for them than going on the attack.

I'm not convinced that they'd get bowled out quicker playing defensively than aggressively.

Does allow the opposition to play more aggresively tbf. It probably depends a lot on how the batters are feeling out in the middle. Plenty of times in the India SA series for example there was a general feeling that the batsmen were better off attacking, though conditions here are hardly as tough as they were then.
