Probably because going at 4 an over would be a terrible reason to drop your frontline spinner.

He's bowling @ 22 this year, leave him alone!
Now going at 2.5 rpo or so and tying them in knots.

Is Smith allowed to ask the umpire where the ball pitched before reviewing?
You are allowed to ask the umpire that after a not out decision in general

whether the laws or ethics of that situation change when there's potential for a review I'm not sure

I can't really see a problem with it

The umpires tend not to say why they gave a not out until after the cpt has made a decision to review or not...

Maybe the umpire shouldn't provide any information on his decision until the review has been turned down.
