Bairstow here is a prime example of how cricket can be so much more of a selfish, personal game than most other team sports I can think of. Blocking and nurdling it around when we're nearly at 600 runs is benefiting absolutely nothing except his average, surely?

He did something similar in the first test in the UAE when it was a road, knackered bowling and runs on the board and where getting a move on was needed he went into block mode.

I do feel he has been very good since his return, however I do find it odd these sort of innings from him.
