Longevity is massively underrated on this forum, hence him never appearing on lists with those guys.
He's also obviously not as good as them. Also, "longevity" isn't a point in his favour at all since his career in years span is shorter to date than all those guys. He's excellent but there's no need to overrate him.

He has picked up his last 50 wickets under 20 runs a piece. And he's nearly 34. Many times I've felt Jimmy was not meant to be in lists with McGrath, Ambrose, Walsh, Hadlee, Marshall, whomever you think is up there. Just not that cathegory. But he has been in god mode for the last 2 years, not?
Walsh also had an incredible last 100 or so wickets which got him up there.

His career span is less than Marshall, Hadlee, Ambrose? By years maybe but Hadlee played 86 tests in 17 years. Can go full throttle much more easily when you are playing that sparingly. In the modern era to play this many tests all around the world and take wickets is extremely impressive and makes him one of the best ever.

People love to knock Anderson. He isn't an all time great and nobody says he is but he sits comfortably in the group below that and he has an incredible amount of wickets in the bag and more to come. I guess the big question is not if he can reach 500 but if he can reach McGrath and become the leading wicket taking pace bowler of all time? I would imagine he will go past Walsh at some stage next year.

Walsh got 260 wickets after the age of 34, so it's actually Warne's wicket tally he should be after, he said stupidly and pointlessly

No idea how long Jimmy can go for, he doesn't rely on pace so he could keep going for a while yet. A lot depends on how the niggles go with his body as he gets older.

Damn it, Nuwan has connected with a couple of slogs. There goes the idea I might be able to bat like an international

As pointed out, Herath started playing far too many shots after a while. Had he stood his ground, Lanka could have got more and it could have been at least a bit more interesting.
