Liverpool didn't deserve the 2005 final, aside from one freak 6 minute spell they were utterly outplayed and their equaliser came about as the result of a quite magnificent dive from their captain. The 3-0 deficit at half time flattered Liverpool massively.

Chelsea and Liverpool beat some serious heavyweights to win it. Real Madrid's toughest game by far was against their little brother, over whom they have every conceivable advantage, and they scraped a win on penalties.

An old boss of mine once told me that Millwall were the epitome of scum. So I'm assuming we're all going for Barnsley?

Even then, half my family are United supporters and even they were rooting for Liverpool to win. Milan had an all-time great side, but we made our attacks count and Rafa, the defence and Gerrard got us over the line. You can say Milan had great chances and still say Liverpool deserved to win.

I've said it before but Juventus will have been kicking themselves for not topping their group. Reckon they'd have beaten either one of the two finalists last night.

Who did they beat in the quarters? I remember them dicking Leverkusen home and away in the last 16 then beating Chelsea in the semis.

Liverpool and Chelsea were both far worse sides than the current Real Madrid side, Milan in 2007 probably as well as their decline had set in by then. Depending how far back you want to go a couple of Real Madrid's sides that won it around the turn of the millennium were also rubbish.

That said with the obvious exception of Liverpool in 2005 I've never wanted a team not to win it as much as I didn't want Real Madrid to win it on Saturday.

Rashford's new contract supposedly worth £20k a week. Manure saved a bundle there then. Glad to see player development rewarded though.

Kid needs a better agent. Finished the season as no 1 striker.
Don't say that, he'll end up at City in 18 months....

But seriously though, whilst you don't want to be chucking £100k a week at every kid who throws together a good run of games, we do need to make sure we've put in place a mechanism for rewarding future progress, lest we end up with a Sterling style scenario ourselves.

Mind you, having Mourinho in charge should be a barrier to progress anyway...
