You don't see the irony of certain comments only being considered racist when directed at a certain race but not when directed at others? That is genuinely what's "racist". Stating a fact or opinion about someone that is a legitimate comment and yet being perceived as "racist" because the object of the comment is of a certain race is insane yet ubiquitous in the Western world and is genuinely sickening.I know this will not be a popular post, but that's not important.
I first want to say that I don't hold what Mark Nicholas wrote against him. He has offered a well written and I assume heartfelt apology and that should be the end of the matter from his perspective.
But these not so subtle insensitive jabs, made by persons who have no idea what it's like to black in a still very racist world. Racism still exists (just look at the US Republican front runner) and it's not funny or amusing.
While.neither is particularly charitable or sporting, there is a difference between labeling an individual not the shapes to tool in the shed (and again, definitely not condoning that charge either) and calling an entire team brainless.
We are a race that is still seen in some quarters as inferior and are reminded of same by these segments at every possible opportunity. If you have not experienced it, please don't comment on it.
Yes, some of Sammy's comments could have been better timed, but so have some of the comments here.
Quite frankly it has been quite disappointing and a little sad.
what is the point of cricket commentary or journalism at all if every time someone has something negative to say about West Indies' players they have to hold their tongue be at risk of labelled a bigot? Absolutely absurd.
