Looks like the crowds in NZ have been far from sporting.

The team were also said to be upset about the lack of attention security had paid when dealing with the chants and taunts to which they had been subjected.
The paper reported that "explicit taunts referencing players' wives and girlfriends in a ***ual manner" were first heard during the opening ODI at Eden Park and had ".continued throughout the tour.
Players were especially distressed, according to the Telegraph, that the players' children had been named in "vile abuse that in some circumstances has spanned entire days' play

New Zealand need to play a lot more tests if we're ever going to compete with the likes of Australia, I think. A four test home season is ridiculous. This must have something to do with our usual hopeless start to pretty much every test series we play in.

Great series from Australia, I thought their inexperienced batting line-up, and bowling injuries and retirements would have them vulnerable in Australia, and us as favourites at home. Wasn't to be. Batsmen stood up and the bowling, especially in this series I thought, was outstanding. Taught NZ a lesson on how to hit line and lengths, move the ball, exploit conditions and build pressure.

Really not sure where to from here for NZ. It all looked so promising for a while with Boult and Southee performing so well and great depth of back ups. Batting should be alright, we lose McCullum but gain Taylor - not quite as much of a concern.

Back to the drawing board for us, hopefully Hesson realizes now he's wasting his time with Guptill, Craig and Nicolls (not ready for international cricket imo) in Tests.

We were building for years for this, only to crumble meekly like we did, it's a bit hard to take.

Too say I'm disappointed is an understatement.

Hopefully the players are feeling it, to beat the way they did here and in Aus they should be shattered and hungry to improve big time for the next time.

Is there any chance we get Ryder back? He's the ideal replacement for McCullum in all 3 formats.

I'd rather have him playing for us than Nicolls, Munro etc.

I like Joe Burns, reckon he is the kind of guy who will 'surprisingly' have a really good record in England even if his overall career numbers are never amazing. Would imagine his struggles against the short ball could hurt him in Aus though.

Right place at the right time kinda thing. In the World Cup the respective approaches of both teams were totally different and look where it got them. Following that was NZ's tour of England where England seemed to follow NZ's blueprint of attacking-if-somewhat-crazy cricket and made for a very entertaining series ("why the heck are NZ getting only 2 tests, so sad to see them go etc."), and carried that approach into the ashes. Similar to how the IPL seems to get a hard on for players who happen to put in some good T20 performances in/against India just before the auction.

That 2001 team "felt" stronger to me IMO. Though 0-0 was flattering (1st 2 tests aus dominated and drawn due to rain) that was an ATG Aus side and NZ had some really in form players. Guys like McMillan & Parore looked genuine Test-class.

There was a lot of prep done for that tour IIRC. Fleming spent the summer at Nottinghamshire and apparently studied the Aussies closely while they were demolishing England in the Ashes at the time.

That series was great. From the one-dayers through to the test matches; just excellent to watch.

Ultimately we lost because they bowled and batted better.

The longer answer is that New Zealand has some non test match standard batsman in its line up. Australia only had Mitchell marsh as a weak link.

It did not help New Zealand that 4 of the 5 pitches were roads. The two New Zealand pitches were roads in disguise that moved about early and then flattened out.

Whether or not Australia found reverse swing does not diminish this fact.

But whose fault is that. Certainly not Australia's. And the pitches in Australia were standard fare that they prepare for everyone.

I really don't know what I think of Corey's performance in this test. If you get in then you need to go on with it. Latham needs the same memo.

Axe Nicholls and try whoever stands up in plunket.

Edit: I also wish to add that we were thoroughly out thought. I look forward to a more cerebral era of captaincy with Kane.
We have had some great captains over the years, here's hoping he can be mentioned in the same breath as Howarth and Fleming.

Seriously this has been a drubbing of epic proportions. The worst part about it we were more competitive in Australia than we were at home. I don't know what exactly has happened but our world leading opening bowlers have sucked royally. All I needed to see in both of Australia's first innings was the first few deliveries bowled by Southee and Boult to know that we were **** ****ed. As soon as I saw the ball was not swinging that was the end of any chance we had of winning the tests.

The Black Caps dropped their nuts against Australia, but hey - we've got the Crapper Hadlee Cup and that's a darn sight better than winning some meaningless test matches against the newly annointed - thanks to us - number 1 side.

Lol at Baz calling Wagner a tremendous asset to the side. He was dragged to Perth...didn't play. Adelaide....didn't play. Good enough to play the Lankans, then dropped for the 1st test against Australia. Then finally gets a gig and bags 6 wickets.

Congrats to the Australians. Played test cricket the way it's meant to be played: never give the opposition an inch. The only way to play. So frustrating that we just do not get it here in NZ.
